SiteMinder names top 10 online booking sites for 2010

SiteMinder – a leading distributor of Australian hotel rooms to online travel agents – has unveiled the top performing online booking websites for its Australian hotel customers.

The Australian and international reservation sites were ranked according to the booking dollars yielded per listed accommodation provider. Only booking sites listing at least 500 of the 3,000 Australian accommodation providers that use SiteMinder as a distribution and channel manager were included in the ranking process.

In order of performance, the top 10 sites delivering bookings for SiteMinder’s hotel customers were:

  1. Wotif
  2. Booking.com
  3. Expedia
  4. Agoda
  5. Orbitz
  6. My Bookings (Entertainment Publications)
  7. Qantas Ready Rooms
  8. RatesToGo
  9. Travelocity
  10. Venere.

SiteMinder online channel analyst, Duncan Waterman, said: “The rapid rise of international sites like Expedia, Booking.com and Agoda in the Australian market really stood out in our analysis. They have recorded the fastest growth in overall bookings across the SiteMinder customer base in the last two years. Notwithstanding success stories like Wotif, the acceleration in bookings from these sites is outstripping some of the local online players who unfortunately haven’t capitalised effectively on their early entrance into the market.

“While our top 10 ranking may vary for each individual hotel, we believe it is an accurate reflection of the state of play in the online bookings market as a whole. While each site may have specific regions or target markets in which they fare better, the top 10 sites – as ranked by SiteMinder – are the ones any hotel should strongly consider listing on.”
