The quiet vanishing of SATTE Indonesia

With no fanfare, SATTE first event in Indonesia has been pushed back to 2014 due to a lack of participants… SATTE explained it would need more time to prepare to host the premium event.

JAKARTA- It was supposed to become the premier B2B travel event for Indonesia. Earlier this year, organizers of SATTE India, a rather well-established B2B travel show in New Delhi and Mumbai, wanted to reiterate their success story in the world’s largest archipelago. With Indonesia having one of the fastest growing economy and a booming middle class, India companies RajaMICE and UBM Asia were capitalizing on the new show, supposedly to be hosted in Bali at Bali International Convention Centre from June 12 to 14, 2013.

Traveldailynews.asia reported last February about the expectation of RajaMICE for the first edition. SATTE Indonesia 2013 would have used a total of 3,000 m2 for exhibitions. Top brand and institutions which confirmed by then their presence were the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy Republic of Indonesia, Bali Rani Hotel, Nusa Dua Beach Hotel, Club Bali Resort, Visit Berlin Organization, Seminyak Villa. The organizers were also expecting Malaysia Tourism Board, the tourism Authority of Thailand or Egypt to participate.

Last month finally, SATTE confirmed that it had cancelled the show due to a lack of participants and has postponed the event to 2014, explaining that it would need more time to prepare to host the premium event. A letter was sent to the participants by Panca Sarungu of Raja MICE and Christopher Eve, CEO for UBM Asia:

“The decision to postpone the event was taken because the take-up of space in the exhibition was not sufficient to ensure that the event would meet the high expectations of travel industry professionals for a SATTE branded event. We sincerely apologize for the postponement. Full details of next year’s event will be released shortly”. The show was expected to be attended by over 300 domestic and international sellers representing the top hospitality and travel brands with more than 300 domestic and international qualified buyers.

A good opportunity for TIME Pasar Wisata, Indonesia’s oldest B2B travel show due to be hosted next October in Padang, West Sumatra…
