Targeted workshops will enhance the hectic business programme of TFWA World Exhibition 2008 which opens on Monday 27th October in the Palais des Festivals et des Congres, Cannes.

In addition to the main Conference on Monday morning which sets the scene for the week with presentations by Erik Juul-Mortensen, TFWA President, Dr Vijay Mallya, President of the UB Group, and Hamish Taylor, Founder of The Skills Exchange, there will be workshops focusing specifically on the inflight retail channel and on the rapidly developing duty free and travel retail trade in the Asia Pacific region.

The Airline Workshop on Tuesday 28th October 08.00-09.00 will be entitled ‘Inflight future: redefining the benefits’ and will be led by Camilla Taylor, Inflight Sales & Logistics Manager for Cathay Pacific Airways. She will discuss Cathay’s plans to innovate with the inflight business in order to capture a greater share of the first and business class passengers’ duty free spend and set the Cathay duty free experience apart from that of other airlines.

The workshop will also feature plenary speaker Hamish Taylor, a specialist in transferring business skills across industry boundaries, who will encourage delegates to look at their business from a fresh dimension using examples of best practice from parallel industries.

This Airline Workshop, which takes place in the Salon Croisette of the Hotel Majestic, is targeted specifically at airline executives and inflight retailers. As places are limited, pre-registration is required at marketing@)tfwa.com.

On Wednesday 29th 08.00-09.00 the Asia Pacific Workshop will focus on ‘China and India: opportunities for travel retail in cities great and small’ offering a wealth of information of interest to brands present or considering entry to this developing market.

TFWA will set the scene, detailing the latest initiatives in the region, recent industry performance and forecasts for the next seven years, with insight to the plans for TFWA Asia Pacific and Gate One2One which will include continued close collaboration with the region’s own travel retail association APTRA. Sunil Tuli, APTRA President, will then briefly outline the association’s recent achievements and plans for the near future.

Next on stage will be Ms Saloni Nangia, Vice President of Technopak Advisors, the respected Indian retail consultancy firm whose clients include the GMR Group which owns Delhi Indira Gandhi and Hyderabad Rajiv Gandhi International Airports. She will analyse the latest trends in travel and related retail on the Indian subcontinent as well as providing an insight to future potential with the development of non-metro city airports.

Derek Sadubin, CAPA’s Chief Operating Officer and China specialist, will then focus on the Chinese aviation sector, looking at the impact of recent developments in both airlines and airports. He will also illustrate how the second and third tier cities in China present enormous potential for both brands and retailers in the duty free and travel retail industry.

Pre-registration for this workshop, which also takes place in the Salon Croisette, Hotel Majestic, is essential; please apply to Francoise Parigi at f.parigi@tfwa.com.

These earlybird workshops and the plenary conference are timed to take place outside the opening hours of the main event, TFWA World Exhibition, which will run from 11.00 to 18.00 on Monday, 09.00 to 18.00 Tuesday to Thursday, and 09.00 to 12.00 on Friday.
