The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) was the recipient of the Abacus-TAFI Award 2009 for Excellence in the Indian Travel Industry as Best International Tourism Board in India when the Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI) held their International Travel Convention 2009 in the city of Chiang Mai in northern Thailand during 22nd-25th October 2009.

The Abacus-TAFI awards, hosted by the Travel Agents Federation of India and TravelBiz Monitor, seek to honour the very best in the travel trade, as perceived by their industry peers. Winners were selected via an online poll and nationwide polling exercise within the Indian travel industry, in association with AC Nielsen, the research partner for the Abacus-TAFI Awards 2009. The Best International Tourism Board in India Award was presented at Le Meridien Chiang Mai Hotel on 23rd October 2009 and was received on behalf of TAT by Mr. Chattan Kunjara Na Ayudhya, Director of TAT New Delhi Office.

According to Mr. Chattan, “The Abacus-TAFI awards are among the foremost awards in the Indian travel trade industry, with the winners selected by their peers in the industry. TAT is delighted to receive the Best International Tourism Board in India Award and will strive to further raise the bar with regards to overall service excellence among NTO’s in India.”

TAT is expanding its presence in India and South Asia with the opening of TAT Mumbai Office on 1st November 2009. The office will be manned by Mr. Sethaphan Buddhani, Director, and Ms. Suladda Sarutilavan, Assistant Director. It will be responsible for Thailand’s tourism marketing activities in Western and Southern India, as well as in Sri Lanka and the Maldives. This second office in India will allow TAT to provide faster and more comprehensive support to the travel industry and consumers by both TAT Mumbai and TAT New Delhi. Thailand expects to receive up to 530,000 tourist arrivals from India by the end of this year, marking yet another year of healthy growth in tourist traffic from the subcontinent.
