SpiceRoads expands to Korea, Sri Lanka and the Mekong area

Cycling tour specialist SpiceRoads is now in Korea and continues to capitalize on Mekong tourism products.

BANGKOK – Bicycle is increasingly popular among travellers keen on soft adventures. Tour packages on two weels are green, entertaining, provides opportunity to be in contact with local people. And it also provides lasting and original memories. “All these ingredients explain that we offer a wider range of products reaching any type of travellers”, explains Patricia Weismantel, Product Manager SpiceRoads at the headquarters of the company in Bangkok.

The tour operator covers now most of Asia, adding new circuits and destinations every year. SpiceRoads propose currently tours and circuits in 19 Asian countries. They are even some countries with a reputation of being difficult such as Pakistan. The circuit is in fact a real challenge, going through some of Pakistan’s high peaks along the Old Silk Road.

Among the new hits for the company is however a less ‘challenging’ destination, South Korea. “We added two months ago this country to our offer with a tour taking ten days to go around historical Korea. The tour follows two of the South Korea’s main rivers, the Han and Nakdong, from Seoul to historical Gyeongj, over a length of 357 km”, adds Patricia Weismantel.

Another increasingly popular destination is Sri Lanka. SpiceRoads added recently a seven-day tour. The 222 km tour goes through five of Sri Lanka’s eight UNESCO World Heritage sites, starting from the beautiful old town of Kandy to Dambulla’s Golden Temple, the  rock fortress of Sigiriya, Minneriya National Park with its elephants and the two ancient cities of Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura with their monasteries stupas and old palaces. “Sri Lanka is gaining also in popularity has the country is at peace and travellers enjoy fantastic food, charming people and beautiful well-preserved landscapes”, says Mrs. Weismantel.

Meanwhile, Mekong circuits continue to be among SpiceRoads clients’ favourites. Such as the tour between Ho Chi Minh City and Bangkok via Siem Reap, the best selling product according to Patricia Weismantel. The TO offers also a shorter version of the trip with a ride between Siem Reap and Bangkok making a stop in the old colonial city of Battambang. The second most popular tour is in Myanmar. “The political opening of Myanmar turns the country into a hit destination. Our 7-day Myanmar heritage tour takes our guests from Mandalay to Bagan before flying them to Yangon. We also look at a new tour from Bangkok to Yangon, cycling along the Irrawaddy River. We had our first trip in June”, tells SpiceRoads product manager.

The third popular tour goes from  Bangkok to Phuket in ten days. A pleasant ride as Thailand roads are in excellent conditions and well equipped to support bike fans…
