Sanya/China – Sanya is set to become the hottest golf destination in Asia-Pacific and will eventually bid its rival and even overtake its counterparts in Hawaii and Miami, said Michel Goget, Chairman of the Sanya Tourism Hotel Association, speaking at the inaugural Asian Golf Tourism Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Developed over the last decade, Hainan Island is the home to over 29 golf courses and 13 golf courses in the immediate Sanya area including two at World Championship standard. These include Yalong Bay Golf Club which is designed by Robert Trent Jones Jnr. and Dunes Golf Course designed by Tom Weiskoph.
“With the arrival of Mission Hills to the island, one of the most famous golf resort brands in the world, the whole of Hainan and particularly Sanya will enjoy a halo effect,” he said. “The tropical climate is perfect for golfers and their families.”
Sanya enjoys more than 300 days of sunshine a year, averaging 26 degrees centigrade. In addition, the destination is served by many air routes and has seen the number of luxury hotels rising rapidly. Latest to offer a golf package, the Ritz-Carlton, Sanya pioneers a 6-day golf package by which golfer groups can exclusively experience three world class golf courses surrounding the hotel (Mystic Springs Golf Club, Yalong Bay and Sun Valley Sanya Golf Resort). The Ritz-Carlton Sanya offers 450 guest rooms, 21 suites and 33 private villas.
