The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) China chapter board members gathered together at the first China chapter board meeting on March 30, to discuss ways to invigorate and extend the PATA chapter network in China.

The half-day meeting attracted 20 delegates to the schoolhouse at Mutianyu, Great Wall, Beijing. After the official launch of the PATA China chapter during the first China responsible tourism forum in Beijing in December 2011, the board meeting increased the cooperation and partnership between the Chapter network and PATA China office. The meeting also served to reinforce the importance of the Chapters in PATA’s future plans.

Via conference call, PATA CEO Martin Craigs thanked the China chapter’s board members for their enthusiasm in developing the Chapter. He also elaborated on PATA’s Next Gen values and PATA mPOWER, a real-time travel data platform that will be formally launched on April 20.

“Different from other chapters around the world, the China chapter is not a separate entity,” said Jens Thraenhart, chair of PATA China chapter board, and president of Dragon Trail.

“Instead, it will act as an advisory board to the PATA China Office to connect with members and drive engagement and collaboration.”

On the agenda were brainstorming sessions on how to enhance the relationship between PATA and Chapter members; how to extend the chapter network in China; how to build value for student chapters by internships and job placement; and organising events, such as the China Responsible Tourism Forum. Several board members volunteered to spearhead initiatives. Mr Li Bo, Deputy Managing Director of Kempinski Hotel Beijing Lufthansa Center, was elected as the vice-chair.
