Passenger and air cargo volumes at Changi rise

The growth trend in passenger and airfreight traffic at Changi Airport continued in May 2004.

Changi Airport handled 2.38 million passengers last month. This is a jump of 136.7 per cent compared to May 2003.

The airport also moved 147,718 tonnes of airfreight. This is 17.3 per cent higher than in May 2003.

In all, Changi Airport has handled 11.8 million passengers in the first five months of this year, or 29.6 per cent more than the corresponding period in 2003, and 0.8 per cent higher than the same period in 2002.

In terms of cargo, Changi Airport moved a total of 706,603 tonnes of airfreight from January to May 2004. This is a gain of 9.8 per cent over the same period in 2003, and an 8.5 per cent improvement from 2002.

The uptrend provides more evidence that Changi Airport has achieved traffic recovery.
