Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo celebrates the Harvest Moon and the Tokyo Skytree

The panoramic view from the east-facing guest rooms of Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo, which overlook the traditional Sumida River and Tokyo Bay, has recently acquired a new feature – the brand-new Tokyo Skytree.

HONG KONG – Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo is renowned for its prime location and the magnificent views from its guest rooms. All of the hotel’s 178 luxuriously appointed guest rooms and suites are located between the top 30th to 36th floors of the Cesar Pelli designed building in Nihonbashi, providing sweeping vistas across the Kanto Plain. The panoramic view from the east-facing guest rooms, which overlook the traditional Sumida River and Tokyo Bay, has recently acquired a new feature – the brand-new Tokyo Skytree.

Over any of the eight nights of the Autumnal Equinox from late September to early October, guests who reserve an east-facing room or suite will be able to view the new landmark structure while appreciating the beauty of the harvest moon; a Japanese tradition that dates back a thousand years. The time-limited “Michinaga” package allows guests to enjoy the view in style, and includes:

  • One night’s luxury accommodation in a spacious east-facing, 50 square-meter Deluxe Room;
  • A set of five Japanese flavoured macaroons in different colours, resembling tsukimi dango, (moon-viewing dumplings), created by the hotel’s Executive Pastry Chef;
  • A bottle of sparkling sake specially selected by our Chief Sommelier
  • Buffet breakfast for two served at K’shiki Asian Inspired Dining on the 38th floor.

The package is named after Fujiwara no Michinaga, the great Japanese statesman who led the Fujiwara family to the height of its power in the Heian Period. Michinaga composed a famous poem titled Mochizuki no Uta (Full Moon Poem) during a moon-viewing party in 1017, comparing his own stature to that of the moon. The Japanese have always greatly appreciated the beauty of the moon, whether it be a full moon or a crescent moon, believing there is no waning in the moon’s glory.
