Tourism Minister of Malaysia Datuk Dr Leo Michael Toyad launched the ministry`s new website, which is more user friendly and provides greater accessibility.

Toyad said the website, www.motour.gov.my, not only carries tourism news but also enables tour industry operators to download licensing forms which would cut red tape and the time taken for them to get them in person.

The website also provides the customer feedback e-form to offer information for the ministry to improve and enhance its services, he said at the launch here.

Toyad said: The Really Simple Syndication facility, better known as Rich Site Summary (RSS), and Tourism News ATOM Feed introduced in the website facilitates the dissemination of tourism news to the public.

The facility enables domestic tourism websites to carry the tourism news by only entering several barcodes, he said.

It also facilities the acquisition of the tourism news accurately and concisely, and ensures that tourists always receive updated news, he said.

Speaking to reporters later, Toyad said Malaysia is like a big supermarket for tourists to choose from, and with information and proper packaging, it would ensure that the right promotions are disseminated to the appropriate tourists.

On a proposal by Federal Territories Minister Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad recently to allow restaurants and supermarkets in Kuala Lumpur to operate 24 hours daily to promote tourism, Toyad said the proposal was positive for the tourism industry but he called for caution in implementing the move to ensure sufficient demand.

He said tourists who arrived late at night and stayed overnight would be delighted to have a 24-hour shopping complex open for them.

Even the Arabs could benefit from this (proposal). As the afternoon weather is too hot, they normally only go out at night, only start shopping when the shops are about to close, but proper review is needed before the implementation, he said.
