Korean Air adds flights to the Greater Mekong Sub-region

National carrier Korean Air continues its strategy of building up its presence in the Mekong area. Next on line are new flights to Yangon in Myanmar.

BANGKOK- The rush continues for airlines to serve booming Myanmar. After Qatar Airways, All Nippon Airways and Condor, Korean Air announced yesterday to put in service a new non-stop air service from Seoul Incheon to Yangon, Myanmar’s largest city and economic capital. Flights will start from September 13th.They will be operated every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday with a Boeing B737-800 offering a capacity for 138 passengers. The flight will take approximately six hours to reach Yangon out of Seoul. On board, passengers will benefit from the comfort of the new “Boeing Sky Interior” providing a more relaxing atmosphere with special lighting as well as additional seat space and larger stow bins for carry-on luggage. Passengers will also enjoy the latest technology in entertainment with video on demand. Flights will start from Seoul at 6.05 pm to land in Yangon around 9.40 pm. Flights out of Yangon will operate at 11.20 pm for a landing in Seoul at 7.40 am on the following day.

This is the second new destination opened this year by Korean Air to a country from the Greater Mekong Sub-region. Last January, Korea’s national carrier launched direct flights between Incheon International Airport in Seoul and Danang, the largest city in Central Vietnam. The airline operates two flights per week. Starting from 19th January 2012 with two flights per week. Thailand and Vietnam represent Korean Air’s largest operations within the GMS with flights to three destinations in each country.
