Incheon named as host of the 9th Routes Asia

The Route Development Group (RDG) has just announced that the 9th Routes Asia is to be held in Incheon, South Korea in 2011. The forum is a strategically important event for all air service development professionals in the Asia Pacific region. Taking place in March 2011, the event will be hosted by Incheon International Airport.

Routes Managing Director, Nigel Mayes, comments: “The airport’s enthusiasm for hosting Routes Asia shows the importance the airport places on air service development. We are confident that the host team will afford all attendees the opportunity to experience at first hand the new and exciting developments underway in the region. We look forward to working with Incheon Airport and to welcoming the delegates to our event in South Korea.”

Mr. C.W. Lee, CEO of Incheon Airport, explains the planned developments for the region: “Incheon Airport plans to develop ‘Air City’, a multidimensional concept that comprises venues for business, shopping, leisure and entertainment. It consists of three different clusters such as ‘Water Park’, the hub of water sports; ‘Fantasy World’, a world-class leisure complex, and ‘Fashion Island’ – a fashion Mecca in Asia.

“Once completed, Air City will attract an additional 10 million visitors per year, offering a whole new level of excitement and convenience. It is expected to become a new revenue generator as an international tourist destination, while contributing to the nation’s economic development.

“The plan is to have the 3rd phase of construction complete by 2015. Incheon Airport predicts that it will boost the airport’s annual passenger-handling capacity from 44 million to 62 million, and cargo-handling capacity from 4.5 million to 5.8 million tons per year.

“Routes Asia provides us with a rare opportunity to meet face-to-face with the decision-makers from many of the region’s major airlines. At the same time it offers us the opportunity to show off what we consider to be one of the world’s most innovative and modern terminals.”

The announcement came at the end of the 8th Routes Asia in Adelaide, Australia.
