The free online hotel reservation service with more than 210,000 hotels worldwide announced the opening of its representative office in the Chinese city of Shanghai. This is hotel.info’s first venture into the Asia, although it has offices in four European countries as well as the two offices in Germany. hotel.info will first focus on acquiring new hotels in China and throughout the region in order to expand its portfolio of accommodation in Asia.
Warini Munshi, Head of International Business Development at hotel.info, believes this will form the basis for the company’s continued success, “For our existing European corporate customers and Chinese travellers in the future, the most important aspect of a platform such as hotel.info is its global selection of hotels – and naturally also the local hotel portfolio. In a second phase we shall start to target Chinese companies with the aim of having them use our booking tool to reduce their costs. The global economic crisis is helping us in this respect. After all, even Chinese firms need to access more efficient hotel bookings and reduce accommodation costs.”
In 2008, hotel.info arranged around 50,000 nights’ accommodation in Chinese hotels, at a total value of some 4.5 million euros. Currently, hotel.info already provides access to more than 4,000 hotels in China.
