REPORT – 55th PATA CONFERENCE – THAILAND: The 55th and final PATA Annual Conference opened following PATA Board`s decision to create a new event starting in two years` time. A shorter, more innovative, business-focused event will be launched in 2008. There will be no PATA Annual Conference in 2007.

PATA President and CEO Mr Peter de Jong said the decision, which has still to be ratified by the PATA AGM today, makes this week`s Conference a watershed event in the Association`s 55-year history.

The PATA Board has taken the wise, long-term view to vote for a more tightly focused business event that demonstrates PATA`s growing role as the convener of high-level discussions on the major global issues and opportunities that shape the travel industry.
