With soaring temperatures heating up the UK, the growing US oil slick and the World Cup all influencing travel patterns this month, cheap flights comparison site Skyscanner investigates flight trends for June 2010.

The top four slots remain unchanged with Malaga (1), Alicante (2), Palma (3) and Tenerife (4) all holding their positions. Dalaman moved up one spot, displacing Faro, London held steady at number seven and Ibiza moved up to position eight, displacing New York. Flights to Orlando entered the top ten, rising two places and relegating Dublin, likely due to the opening of Harry Potter World.

Greece will be pleased to see that Crete was amongst the highest climbers, rising five places to 33, which comes after predictions that the country’s tourist industry would suffer following civil unrest earlier in the year. Searches for flights to Sydney also rose five spots to 34, as did Johannesburg which moved into number 45, likely due to football fans travelling to the World Cup.

There were no significant drops in rankings this month. Destinations to fall the most were Luqa (Malta) which fell by five spots, Madrid which fell by three and Venice also fell by three. New to the Top 50 this month were Corfu, Antalya and Hong Kong. Pisa, Frankfurt and Fuerteventura all disappeared from the June Top 50, after sitting in the upper 40s last month. Looking at the most popular countries overall, Spain tops the list, followed by the UK itself then the USA, Italy, France, Greece, Germany, Portugal and Cyprus.

Skyscanner Co-founder Barry Smith commented: “This month sees Dalaman pushing into the top five, and two US destinationsin the top ten. At country level, Spain remains strong and Italy, France and Greece are all performing well.”
