China Airlines has passed the rigorous IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) renewal audit, once again demonstrating that CAL’s flight safety standards and procedures remain at the highest international level. The IATA (International Air Transport Association) now requires all its members to secure IOSA registration, and IOSA registration operators need to pass a renewal audit every two years.
China Airlines was the first Taiwan-based carrier to secure IOSA registration in 2005.
The IOSA is a comprehensive review of eight disciplines fundamental to the operational safety of an airline. Those eight categories are: Organization and Management; Flight Operations; Cabin Operations; Aircraft Engineering and Maintenance; Operations Control and Flight Dispatch; Aircraft Ground Handling; Cargo Operations; and Operational Security. The audit process requires a team of qualified IOSA auditors to review over 750 globally harmonized standards and recommended practices.
In order to improve safety levels and reduce the amount of redundant code share audits in the industry, IATA, acting as a neutral partner to the industry, united the airline industry together and has successfully implemented IOSA. By meeting the rigorous IOSA standards, China Airlines gains all the benefits that come with IOSA registration. When interested parties are negotiating a code share agreement, all parties save time and reduce costs by mutually accepting the IOSA Audit Reports.
China Airlines has spared no effort in improving its flight safety in recent years, and uses the most advanced available systems such as FOQA and FORAS to monitor every flight. FOQA (Flight Operations Quality Assurance) is an advanced flight safety tool that makes an electronic record of every flight, which can be analyzed to ensure that correct safety procedures are always used. FORAS (Flight Operations Risk Assessment System) is a decision-making tool that allows CAL to assess the relative risk of specific in-flight incidents.
CAL has also established quality assurance units to monitor its flight safety and maintenance departments. Passing the rigorous IOSA renewal audit shows that CAL remains dedicated to maintaining the highest international standards of flight safety.
