B to C business aviation event in China mirrors buyers’ trends

Business Aviation – next stop Macau

After EBACE in Geneva this week, the next dedicated business aviation event will be staged in Macau during 10-11 June. At least 10 business aircraft are set to showcase on the static line at the Macau Business Aviation Centre, Macau International Airport venue. Gulfstream is bringing a G550 and possibly others, Embraer a Lineage 1000 and Cessna an XLS+. Dassault’s Falcon 2000 will also be on show.

Supported by leading business aviation OEMs including Airbus, Dassault, Bombardier, Embraer and Gulfstream, a conference entitled Business Aircraft in Asia – a buyer’s guide’ is scheduled for the afternoon of Thursday, 10 June. It will be slanted toward the consumer market, reflecting the fact that 90% of new aircraft sales in China are being made to private individuals.

“Private aircraft charter enquiries have doubled over September/October 2009, reflective of a good indication of recovery in the Asian market,” says Asian Business Aviation Association Chairman Chuck Woods. He also cites recent action by CAAC to dramatically reduce the time it takes to arrange overfly permits from six days to three hours – for Chinese registered aircraft and the progressive relaxation of other regulations after lobbying by AsBAA for more government support. “Western companies such as VistaJet and ExecuJet are moving in to the region with aircraft and infrastructure investment. Importantly, Chinese banks seem to have an appetite to lend money for aircraft purchases,” adds Woods.

Asian Business Aviation will run alongside Reed Exhibitions’ premier Global Gaming Expo Asia, G2E Asia, the biggest and most influential gaming event in Asia which will attract some 4,500 delegates, including casino owners and many of the region’s high spenders.

The conference, being run in association with AsBAA will be held on 10 June at the static area display area (SADA) and there will be a gala dinner sponsored by the Venetian Hotel  that evening. Lifestyle media partners include Global Flying, Prestige and Millionaire Asia.

Educating HNWIs about chartering and buying jets in Asia
Confirmed speakers at the 10 June conference include Jason Liao, Vice Chairman of AsBAA and Sales Director, China for Bombardier Aerospace; David Velupillai, Product Marketing Director, Executive and Private Aviation Airbus – on the considerations of purchasing a jet. Lester Ingram, COO Metrojet Hong Kong, Jolie Howard, Director Business Development, TAG Asia, together with Chuck Woods, Chairman Jet Asia, will discuss key criteria in selecting a management company.

A panel discussion on the different options for aircraft purchase – new, pre-owned or fractional will be addressed by Christian Castang, Chief Executive of Altair Aero projects and Paul Ng, Global Head of Aerospace, Stephenson Harwood, Singapore.  Business aircraft flying in Asia will be addressed by panelist Simon Wagstaff, CEO of ASA Group and

a senior representative from Universal Aviation Hong Kong Kong. Break out sessions are also planned on helicopters – as a complement to fixed wing charter and how to finance a rotor wing aircraft.

Reed Exhibitions has teamed with the Civil Aviation Authority of Macau, the Macau Government Tourism Board, together with CAM Macau International Airport and the MBAC for this debut event, which comes hard on the heels of a very successful business aviation showing at Asian Aerospace last September in Hong Kong. Macau’s Trade and Investment Promotion Institute is also lending support in securing VIPs and prominent business visitors.

Macau’s grand Venetian hotel, the largest hotel in the world is Asian Business Aviation’s preferred hotel and the venue for the AsBAA-supported conference.

Richard Thiele, Head of Global Sales – Aerospace and Aviation at Reed Exhibitions UK says: “ABA Macau looks like being a great success which is a recognition from the manufacturers of the strong growth signal from the business aviation market in Asia, coupled with the unique proximity of our G2E exhibition.”
