‘Brilliant’ double win for Web Structures in China

Web Structures has a strong track record of working on resort projects across the globe in ecologically sensitive areas, including the acclaimed Four Seasons resort in the Seychelles.

Web Structures, one of the world’s leading experts in environmentally-aware engineering, has been appointed to the team delivering two new luxury spa resorts in China.

The global civil, structural and geotechnical engineering consultancy, which has offices in London as well as Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Shanghai, will bring its expertise to the cutting-edge projects, to create the resorts in Chongqing and Kunming.

The resorts will be operated by the Brilliant Hotel Management Group of China and the architect for both developments is Heah and Co, a London-based practice that offers holistic architectural, interior and furniture design services predominantly in the international luxury resort hotel market.

Web Structures has a strong track record of working on resort projects across the globe in ecologically sensitive areas, including the acclaimed Four Seasons resort in the Seychelles.

It is also working on another Four Seasons project in Goa, Western India, for Toronto headquartered Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts.

The Chongqing project will see Web Structures utilise its experience in environmentally sensitive regions to help create a cliff top resort with a main 1,720 sq metre building and 32 spa villas.

In Kunming, the practice’s expertise in working in areas of high seismicity will play an important role in delivery. Set on a bay on the Yangzhong lake, the resort will include a hotel, apartment, shops and lakeside villas with a total building area of 112,000 sq metres.

Dr Hossein Rezai, Web Structures’ group director, said: “Our track record in creating tourist resorts in ecologically sensitive environments, such as the Seychelles, will be important in the Chongqing project.

“Here the challenge is construction on a cliff top close to the river and creating the resort in such a way that it does not affect the existing environment. The aim is also to integrate the development with local traditional building styles.

“The aim is to create a resort that will be beneficial to tourism and the local economy and have a minimal impact on the local eco-system.

“In Kunming, we will be using our experience working in zones of high seismicity. This area of China sits in a UBC Zone 3a with an earthquake coefficient of 0.24.”

He added: “We are delighted to be working with a company that continues to raise the bar in China with its innovative designs for luxury spa resorts.

“These developments will challenge existing norms, they are cutting-edge and like nothing that has been seen in these parts of China before.”

The Brilliant Hotel Management Group has 16-years of experience in resort investment in China, creating five start hotels, spa resorts and country clubs.

London-based Heah and Co is also widely experienced in designing high-end leisure resorts, including working with Four Seasons in Bali.

Web Structures works with top architects from across the globe on some of the biggest and most challenging buildings and design project – collaborating from the early design stages to turn the vision into construction reality.

In Goa, Web Structures is ensuring that the Four Seasons high end luxury development will have minimal environmental impact without causing any negative impact on neighbouring communities.

As part of the project, Web Structures is designing a 500 metre road and pedestrian bridge crossing the Tiracol River which will be one of the most picturesque in Goa and will form a new transport link between the neighbouring states of Goa and Maharashtra.

Global architecture practice WAT&G is the master planner and architect designing the resort, which includes an 18 hole Professional Golf Association (PGA) accredited golf course being designed by British golf legend Colin Montgomerie.

London-based design firm 1508 London is also designing a number of stunning private villas for long stay guests as part of the master plan for the development.

Four Seasons Tiracol in Goa is the third Four Seasons resort Web Structures has worked on with such a demanding environmental brief and challenging topography and the sixth Four Seasons resort worked on in total around the world.

In 2009, Web Structures won international acclaim for its engineering solutions on the environmentally-friendly resort Four Seasons has created on the Seychelles.

The practice, which has just moved into new headquarters in Singapore and opened a London office as part of its expansion plans – is also heavily involved in creating some of the tallest towers in cities across India – using its expertise in earthquake engineering to allow developers to go higher than ever before.

It is involved in major media projects in Asia, including the creation of the new £90 million Pinewood film studio in Malaysia and a £15 million state-of-the-art broadcasting campus in Singapore for media giant MediaCorp.

Web Structures’ expertise in bridge building has seen the creation of the amazing Deya – a dramatic cloud-like sky-bridge in the Indian city of Kolkata that links two 39-storey apartment buildings.

It has also used that expertise to oversee the creation of a sky-bridge linking three towers at the 50-storey Troika development in Kuala Lumpur, designed by Sir Norman Foster.
