KUALA LUMPUR – The Kuala Lumpur Journal (KL Journal), is a new concept boutique hotel nestled in one of the last historic neighbourhoods just off Bukit Bintang, the city’s main shopping and entertainment district. Designed with a modern retro vibe with inspired local references, the KL Journal caters to a new generation of independent travellers looking for alternatives to hotel chains — one that delivers essential modern day amenities but with a stamp of personal style and identity.

In keeping with the hotel’s DNA, the KL Journal’s interiors is handsomely industrial, with exposed beams, rigged lighting, metal, weathered wooden surfaces and vintage furnishings. Local culture is celebrated with classic KL iconography and memorabilia presented in an appealing eclectic mix.

Relatively spacious for a city hotel, its 112 rooms are kept simple in a soft neutral palette and are accented by inspiring black and white portraits of KL street life and architecture specially commissioned by the KL Journal. Its king and twin deluxe rooms plus eight designer corner suites all feature floor-to-ceiling windows, ergonomic mattresses, high thread count sheets, a power shower, connectivity for all mobile devices, USB charge ports, wireless stereo and 40-inch flat screen TVs.

The hotel also curates its own insider guide with handpicked suggestions on how to experience KL like a local, to encourage guests to create their own bookmark-worthy personal travelogue of special experiences.

Other highlights include Workers’ Union, a flexible open-plan communal area designed for work and play. Here guests can set up their mobile workstations or opt for one of the breakout studios, featuring quirky wall art and installations. Everything opens out onto a large green terrace, perfect for after-hours conversations over cold craft beers and flavourful bar fare served up from The Shack’s rustic on-site container kitchen.

Keeping things simple, the hotel’s main restaurant, Bounty offers breakfasts that include freshly baked breads and pastries churned out daily from its pastry studio. The casual bistro also features a classic menu of European lunch and dinner staples.

Other amenities include a small gym and a rooftop infinity pool with a great vista of the city particularly at twilight.
