Asiana Airlines transforms its PSS with Amadeus’ next generation Altea suite

Asiana Airlines, winner of Skytrax’s 2010 airline of the year, announced it will implement the Amadeus Altea Customer Management Solution to manage its domestic and international reservations, inventory and departure control operations. Asiana is the latest airline to adopt Amadeus Altea, the ground-breaking passenger service system from Amadeus, a leading travel technology partner and transaction processor for the global travel and tourism industry.

In a signing ceremony in Seoul today, attended by Kwang Hee Ryu, EVP Commercial-Passenger of Asiana Airlines as well as David Brett, President of Amadeus Asia Pacific and Julia Sattel, Vice President of Airline IT, Amadeus, Asiana Airlines revealed that the agreement will transform Asiana’s passenger service system, driving enhanced customer service and more efficient business operations. Asiana’s migration to the Amadeus Altea Customer Management Solution is due for completion by 2013.

Kwang Hee Ryu, EVP, Commercial-Passenger Asiana Airlines said of the new agreement, “We have been studying our passenger service system requirements over the last few years and determined that the Altea suite was the perfect solution to meet our future needs. Altea offers an impressive range of functions that will allow us to enhance our passenger management processes and respond more efficiently to customer needs whilst also enabling closer integration with other Star Alliance members on the Altea platform.”

David Brett, President, Amadeus Asia Pacific said, “We recognise Asiana’s commitment to customer service excellence and are confident Altea will help the airline enhance its operational efficiency. Selecting the Star Alliance Common IT Platform will enable Asiana to have better integration with its partner airlines, the ability to offer superior customer service while reducing operational cost.”

Brett added, “Asiana Airline’s decision to implement Altea, underpins the success of Amadeus as a technology provider to airlines in the Asia Pacific region.”

Justin Erbacci, Vice President Information Technology at Star Alliance said, “With Asiana Airlines we welcome a further Asian member carrier to the Star Alliance Common IT Platform. Following implementation, the airline will enhance the exchange of passenger, flight and other pertinent data and thereby improve the customer experience across the Star Alliance Network.”

Over 372 million passengers travelled on airlines using Amadeus Altea in 2010. There are now over 110 airlines contracted for Amadeus Altea, with over 95 having been migrated. Asiana joins 16 other Star Alliance members using Altea, including ANA and THAI who have recently selected Altea, the Star Alliance Common IT Platform.

Asiana Airlines is already a customer of Amadeus e-commerce solutions using Amadeus to power its website booking engine.
