Asiana Airlines signs MOU for Amadeus’ Altea solution

Asiana Airlines and Amadeus announced the signing of a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) to commence detailed evaluation of the Amadeus Altea Customer Management System (CMS).

Under this MOU, Asiana will set the timelines for their assessment and planning for the future implementation of Altea. Once implemented, the Altea solution will manage all reservation, inventory and departure control processes for Asiana, delivering a fully integrated Customer Management System.

With Altea Reservation, Asiana will be assured of a seamless reservation service across all sales channels through the unique sharing of reservation services between Asiana and travel agencies. Altea Inventory streamlines Asiana’s flight schedule management and allows for the timely introduction of new products. Altea Departure Control has been designed to automate all airport processes, from check-in to irregularity handling.

Kwang Hee Ryu, Executive Vice President Asiana Airlines Commercial Passenger, said: “Asiana prides itself in providing the highest levels of customer service during the travel experience, from booking and check-in, through to our in-flight and post-flight services. As a Star Alliance member, adopting the complete Altea solution is a logical decision to guarantee we maintain our competitive edge while also having a positive impact on our bottom line. The automation of inventory control, check-in and departure will allow us to deploy our resources in more value-added areas.”

“We are delighted that Asiana Airlines has elected to proceed with a detailed analysis of Altea, the technological base for the Star Alliance Common IT Platform. As more of our members opt for this solution, our ability to greatly improve time to market, reduce costs of ongoing development work and enable a seamless service offering across our global network will be enhanced,” commented Justin Erbacci, Vice President Information Technology, Star Alliance.

Julia Sattel, Vice President, Airline IT at Amadeus, said: “Amadeus welcomes Asiana’s decision to evaluate the Amadeus Altea CMS. Asiana will join many of the world’s leading carriers who have already chosen the new generation Altea solution, now recognized as an industry-standard for airline customer management. We are confident that Asiana will experience significant benefits in efficiency and customer service consistency as a result of Altea implementation, as well as greatly enhanced connectivity to other Star Alliance members.”

More than 90 airlines have chosen to adopt the full Amadeus Altea CMS solution, of which 13 are Star Alliance member carriers, including Lufthansa and Singapore Airlines.

Asiana was recognized for its outstanding performance by ATW in 2009 with the ATW “Airline of the Year Award”. Skytrax also chose Asiana as a 5-star Airline for two consecutive years. Asiana operates a modern fleet of 73 aircraft, covering 65 destinations in 20 countries.
