ADAC hosted the 9th Annual ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Aviation Security Committee Meeting

As host of ACI Exchange 2011, Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) hosted the 9th meeting for the Airports Council International (ACI) Asia-Pacific Regional Aviation Security Committee, which was held over a two-day period on November 27 and 28 at ADNEC to discuss advancements in the aviation security sector and establish and strengthen positive relations amongst members of the committee.

As part of the meeting, Mr. Ahmad Bukala, Director of Operations at the Department of Civil Aviation, Sharjah International Airport, was elected for the position of Chairman of the Security Committee.

Ahmed Al Haddabi, Chief Operating Officer ADAC commented: “Through ADAC’s role as the operator of Abu Dhabi’s five airports, we are proud to drive engagement in these conferences and events as we seek to deliver best in class international security standards across our facilities, and support airports across the Asia-Pacific region. As part of Airport Exchange 2011 hosted in Abu Dhabi, the annual meeting for ACI Asia-Pacific Aviation Security Committee brings together aviation and airport security experts on one platform to discuss the latest developments in this dynamic sector.”

Commenting on his election of presidency Mr. Bukala said: “I would like to extend my appreciation to ADAC for hosting the 9th meeting of ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Aviation Security Committee, in line with its commitment towards excellence in the airports sector. I look forward to serving as Chairman of the committee in the coming years to develop initiatives that continue to improve security in aviation and airports.  As technology progresses and new airports and facilities open across the region, security is a high priority to all airport operating companies to accommodate the forecasted increase in passenger traffic globally.”

The Airports Council International includes various security committees, where each falls under its prospective region. Some goals of those committees are to discuss and study the developments of aviation sector and to ultimately deliver treaties, policies and recommendations to relative councils through its annual meetings.

During the meeting, various topics of aviation security were discussed. Some of those topics were fluids law, training, readiness of airport security staff and airport security risk evaluations.

Attending the event was Mr. Ahmed Al Shamisi, Airport Aviation Security Development Manager at ADAC, member of the Asia-Pacific Regional Aviation Security Committee, Mr. Butti Ahmed Gerwash, Chief Airports Security Insurance at Dubai International Airport, Mr. Ronny Elliot, Manager of Airport Security at Sydney International Airport and member of the Asia-Pacific Regional Aviation Security Committee, Mr. David Rayder, Senior Manager of Aviation Security at ACI, and Mr. Arthur Alison, Information Systems and Facilitation Manager at ACI.
