The extensive floods caused serious problems in railway traffic.
GUANGZHOU – There are 80,000 tourists and locals stranded at a main China railway station. The train service of Guangzhou Railway Station, a rail hub in south China, has been suspended after landslides blocked a railway artery linking Guangzhou and Beijing, Guangzhou Railway Corporation said on Sunday.
The train company could not confirm when the train service could resume.
Landslides cut off the Guangdong section of Beijing-Guangzhou Railway as downpours have been drenching northern part of Guangdong Province for days, the railway company said.
Passengers were told not to come to the railway station as there would be no train to board.
A large number of passengers have been stranded in Guangzhou railway station, in the south of China. Trains to and from Guangzhou were cancelled after landslides triggered by floods blocked the Beijing-Guangzhou rail line.
Torrential rains and floods were caused by Typhoon Utor, the strongest storm this year that made landfall in Guangdong on Wednesday. Railway workers are rushing to clear the blocked tracks. Officials say people should travel by road, air or high-speed train which have been less affected by the floods.
