21st Anniversary of Marco Polo German Bierfest

The most traditional, largest and longest running outdoor German beer festival in Asia.

HONG KONG – Marco Polo German Bierfest 2012 will kick off in October with 23 days of ϋber fun exceeding the 16-day celebration in Munich. It is the undisputed Marco Polo signature event in Hong Kong and has been an annual highlight in every entertainment calendar for residents and visitors alike for the past 20 years.  It is the most traditional, largest and longest running outdoor party in Asia that everyone raves about.  Record numbers were reached last year when more than 50,000 guests converged and consumed more than 70,000 litres of beer; 7,500 meters of sausages and 30,000 pretzels.

The Marco Polo German Bierfest will be opened to public from 19 October to 10 November 2012. For the past 20 years, the Marco Polo German Bierfest has been an astounding and unprecedented success. Every year, thousands of guests party under a giant open-air marquee overlooking the stunning Victoria Harbour. This year, an even larger marquee will be set up, providing a more comfortable venue.

Ride on the success of last year, this year we continue to feature a special edition beer, Löwenbräu Oktoberfestbier, which consists of higher wort content, and has more flavor than the regular beers. Löwenbräu the iconic Munich based brewery with a history that dates back to 1383. Oktoberfestbier which literally means “meadow beer” is a fresh and light amber lager, brewed specially to commemorate Oktoberfest. It is the same traditional beer featured in the Lowenbrau tent at the annual Munich Oktoberfest celebration. Löwenbräu which means “lion’s beer” has been served in every single Oktoberfest since 1810. In Hong Kong, the beer could only be found in Marco Polo German Bierfest.

In addition, beer-mug-shaped souvenir hats will be distributed on-site to surprise guests on selected nights. Special edition beer mugs printed with the 21st anniversary logo will also be given to adults on Friday & Saturday.

The Notenhobler Band
Since 1994, “The Notenhobler” has been the official band in Marco Polo German Bierfest. The band wears original Oberkrainer clothes, and sings traditional tunes and hearty folk music. The Notenhobler also performs madcap antics and hosts popular games such as “Strong Man”, “Milking the Cow”, “Pump-the-Balloon”, “Chicken Dance”, and various drinking contests.

The Notenhobler, an international band originated from Munich, Germany, is a traditional boy group founded in November 1985 by Uwe Ninow (trumpet) and Martin Wies (baritone, bass), and some members from the music club “Wiblingen” at their age of 14.  In the past two decades, the band has been circumnavigating the globe for various musical performances.

Band Show times:
Sunday to Thursday 7:30pm – 11:00pm
Friday and Saturday 7:30pm – 11:30pm
