TTF 2010 boosts domestic tourism

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is inviting Thai tourists, expatriates living in Thailand, and the general public to join the country’s largest travel and tourism showcase event, the Thailand Tourism Festival 2010 (TTF 2010) during 9-13 June, 2010, from 10:00-21:00 hrs, at the Challenger Hall 1-3, Impact Muang Thong Thani.

Designed to stimulate domestic tourism by showcasing quality Thai tourism products and services as well as to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of TAT, the TTF 2010 features a vast range of new tourist attractions highlighting Thai culture, the unique traditions of each region, the benefits of tourism, and a display of new technology on tourism marketing and other areas of travel.

The event will feature a daily programme of spectacular performances, highlighting the best of each Thai region. It will also highlight special interest travel opportunities; such as, ecotourism, adventure tourism, green tourism, and health and wellness.

The event will see a strong turnout of Thai public and private sector tourism organisations and associations, tourism-related businesses, small and medium sized enterprises, travel agents, airlines, hotels, resorts, and arts and crafts makers nationwide. Many of them will have special offers exclusively for visitors to the event.

Last year, the event attracted over 150,000 people which generated 200 million Baht in income. TAT is expecting at least 200,000 people to attend throughout the five-day event, generating an estimated same amount as last year both directly and indirectly. This year, the key focus of TTF is to encourage the Thai people to seek relaxation and find happiness after the recent crisis more than economic return. The event is also designed to help restore tourists’ confidence to travel to Thailand again by initially encouraging the Thai people to resume travel.

In 2009, Thais began taking their holidays at home, which generated a 3.3% increase in domestic travel to 87 million trips and earnings of 467 billion Baht. The average length of stay was 2-3 days, with average daily expenditure per person per day of 3,500 Baht. The domestic arrivals target in 2010 is 90 million trips.

TAT Governor Suraphon Svetasreni said, “Domestic tourism is becoming a mainstay of the Thai tourism industry, especially in times when international tourism is affected by events beyond our control. The TTF 2010 will help showcase many of our micro-level tourism companies and the opportunities for low-budget domestic travellers to see different parts of the country.”

This year, the private sector will participate in 598 booths. TAT has divided the show into 13 zones where visitors can find the perfect combination of products and services to plan their next trip, as well as various kinds of tourism activities suited to many different tastes, budgets, and customer profiles.
