TravMedia and Tourism Australia announces International Media Marketplace for ATE 2014

Media attending the event will be able to pre-schedule appointments or meet up with exhibitors of choice at the event and plan a year's worth of stories, features and trips.

CAIRNS – TravMedia has announced International Media Marketplace (IMM) will be hosted in conjunction with Tourism Australia’s Australian Tourism Exchange (ATE) 2014, bringing together international and domestic journalists, editors, broadcasters, bloggers and digital influencers to meet with Australian tourism destinations and brands for a three day event in Palm Cove from 9 to 11 May 2014.

Based on the successful platform developed by TravMedia, IMM at ATE14 will provide a forum for Tourism Australia to connect media from around the world to meet with travel companies in a more focussed way to raise awareness of their product and to develop future stories on Australia’s tourism experiences.

The IMM program of events will take place in Queensland’s Palm Cove just prior to the start of ATE and will include a welcome reception for all media and industry, an international marketplace on Saturday 10 May, gala event and a new media workshop designed specifically for the tourism industry.

Media delegates attending IMM will also be invited to participate in a familiarisation program, offering an excellent opportunity to experience some of the best Australian tourism products and experiences first-hand.

IMM has been designed to enable exhibitors to showcase and promote their product to media from across a broad-range of outlets, including top-producing editors, columnists and bloggers and photographers.

Exhibitors at IMM will have dedicated tables to conduct one-on-one appointments, with a floor plan of IMM to be promoted to media ahead of the event and included in the official show program. Media attending the event will be able to pre-schedule appointments or meet up with exhibitors of choice at the event and plan a year’s worth of stories, features and trips.

The hosting of IMM in Australia marks a long tradition of TravMedia’s major support of significant industry and media marketplace events in various locations around the world.

TravMedia has for the past four years worked with the U.S. Travel Association on media activity at International Pow Wow and more recently has been directly involved with Society of American Travel Writers’ Annual Conferences.

TravMedia’s CEO and Founder, Nick Wayland said the response to the other IMM events had “been overwhelming” with the media and exhibitors “strongly endorsing this new style of industry event”.

“We are also anticipating a full-house for IMM in May as this is the perfect platform for an event concentrating solely on the meeting of premier travel and tourism product and a strong representation of media,” he said.

Tourism Australia’s Chief Marketing Officer, Nick Baker said the hosting of ATE14 in Cairns provided the perfect platform for introducing the IMM concept to Australia’s largest annual event for the international travel distribution system.

“Australia has a great tourism offering and ATE enables tourism product suppliers from all corners of the nation to put the spotlight on their experience with the people who specialise in getting Australian holidays in the hands of consumers,” Mr Baker said.

“Adding IMM to the ATE program enables these same tourism product suppliers to extend their reach to a global media audience with a huge appetite for reporting on Australia’s many and diverse tourism experiences.”

Registration to exhibit at IMM is now open for Australian travel and tourism product. IMM ATE14 is by invitation-only to accredited media. The program is limited to 25 domestic and 50 international media from designated source markets.
