NBTA to honor ADTRAV’s Burchfield with Allied Member of the Year Award

The National Business Travel Association (NBTA) announced that C. Maylena Burchfield, CCTE, of ADTRAV Travel Management, will be honored as the recipient of the 2009 Allied Member of the Year Award. The award is given each year at the NBTA International Convention & Exposition, to be held this year August 23-26 in San Diego, to an NBTA Allied Member who demonstrates steadfast dedication to the managed travel industry and whose actions over the previous year have significantly advanced the business.

Burchfield has been a consistent supporter of NBTA and its resources over the years, participating on the Technology Committee and in planning sessions to further the business travel industry. As a founding board member of the NBTA Political Action Committee and actively serving on the Legislative Advisory Council (LAC), she has helped to bring important legislative issues to the forefront of the travel industry. She has also worked tirelessly to solicit personal donations to the NBTA Political Action Committee (NBTAPAC) fund.

Kevin Maguire, CCTE, GLP, NBTA President & CEO, said, “Maylena’s strategic insights and perspectives have been instrumental in helping to advance NBTA’s legislative affairs efforts in recent years. Her dedication to enhancing policies that govern the industry has been invaluable to NBTA and the corporate travel community as a whole.”

Burchfield has also been an advocate of education offerings through NBTA and the NBTA Foundation. She received her Certified Corporate Travel Executive (CCTE) designation in less than seven months after joining NBTA, and she had successfully completed coursework for the Global Leadership Professional (GLP) program conducted by the Wharton School of Business. Concerned with environmental issues and the impact of global warming, Burchfield is currently completing her GLP designation, focusing on corporate opportunities to cost effectively enhance sustainability.

Scott Solombrino, President of the NBTA Allied Leadership Council (ALC) and President & CEO of Dav El Chauffeured Transportation Network, said, “Maylena has contributed her time and expertise to help NBTA continue to grow and meet the evolving needs of the business travel community. Whether she is offering opinions during an LAC conference call or helping to lobby Congress at the annual NBTA Legislative Summit, she is truly dedicated to improving the industry she has already enhanced so much. I am honored to present the NBTA Allied Member of the Year Award to my friend and colleague Maylena Burchfield.”

As an entrepreneur assisting corporations during times of industry change and growth, Burchfield joined ADTRAV Travel Management in the aftermath of 9/11, identifying areas of business expansion to create lucrative new divisions within the company. She was instrumental in ADTRAV’s growth during those difficult years, being the catalyst that propelled the regional travel management company to the 9th largest TMC in the nation.
