Australia has been chosen to host WYSTC 2006, as saind WYSTC Director Susan. The conference, which is to be held in Melbourne from 7 to 13 October 2006 and brings together some 400 organisations from 80 countries worldwide, is the premier international annual event for the youth and student travel industry.

The conference is a joint effort of FIYTO – the Federation of International Youth Travel Organisations and ISTC – the International Student Travel Confederation. The two organisations pioneered the youth and student travel movement over 50 years ago and continue to work together to build and support the special identity of youth and student travel. The conference includes pre-booked business appointments; industry-focused seminars; networking events and association meetings.

Bringing the conference to Australia is our way of saluting and acknowledging the land`s immense contribution to the industry, and its recognition and documentation of the commercial and social value of youth and student travel for both sending and receiving nations, said Director of WYSTC, Susan Goldstein.

Adding, with Australia sending so many youth and students abroad as well as being an almost iconic destination for young travellers, it makes it a natural choice for WYSTC.

Tourism Australia Managing Director, Scott Morrison said, It is a great honour for Australia to be selected to host WYSTC 2006 and to have the key players in the youth and student travel sector here to do business to boost this important tourism market.

Australia places great value on the youth and student travel market, which accounts for around 30 per cent all of overseas visitors to Australia and contributes around $5.7 billion dollars in expenditure to the economy each year.
