Australia’s first Green Globe Silver Certified Convention Centre, the Adelaide Convention Centre, is making a commitment to environmental sustainability and is supporting business efforts to do the same, providing the ideal backdrop for events such as the CleverGreen Conference and Showcase in February, and the Clean Energy Council to be held in May.
International climate change expert and Nobel Prize winner, Professor John Byrne, South Australian Premier Mike Rann, and Climate Change Minister, Senator Penny Wong addressed over 500 business visitors and investors from 15-16th February in the first ever cleantech conference to be held in South Australia.

Aimed at boosting economic opportunities in sustainable industries, the cleantech conference is the first of many sustainable conferences the Adelaide Convention Centre hopes to host to facilitate the state’s green growth. More than 700 senior managers and key decision makers in the clean energy industry from across Australia and around the world will convene at the Adelaide Convention Centre in May for the Clean Energy Council National Conference.
“We hope that by working with the conference contributors, from both within Government and the private sector, we will enable continued cross-fertilisation of ideas and advancements to further enhance our state’s Clean Technology sector,” he said.
Committed to reducing their carbon footprint, the Adelaide Convention Centre has pioneered numerous initiatives such as: Waste minimisation by composting, recycling and worm farming; Increased water saving through water saving devices and operational practices; and continual reduction of energy consumption.
Ensuring they are environmentally responsible the Adelaide Convention Centre offers a series of Sustainable Meeting events packages, as well as a number of carbon emission offset options for the organisers and delegates of functions large and small.
The Adelaide Convention Centre supplied environmentally responsible low food mile catering throughout CleverGreen and offset the 10.2540 tonnes of carbon emissions generated over the two day conference by planting native trees through the South Australian ‘Trees for Life’ program.
The Adelaide Convention Centre is confident of the future of sustainability and is pleased to be playing a role to ensure its success. “South Australia is a hub for product and service innovation, providing not only solutions to consumers and trade, but also offering responsible solutions to global resource, land and climate issues,” Mr Gilbert said.
