Korea MICE Expo 2011 to welcome over 3,000 meetings professionals

The Korea MICE Expo 2011 (KME) will welcome 300 buyers and over 3,000 meetings industry professionals to Coex for business consultations, exhibitions, workshops, and forums from June 28-30 in Seoul. The three-day event is the largest MICE industry trade show in Korea, and looks to expand its presence as a global industry trade show in Seoul, the country’s largest meetings destination.

The 2010 KME enjoyed an overall increase from KME 2009 in the number participants with a twofold increase of foreign buyers, a 73% increase in business consultation sessions, and representatives from an additional 15 countries in attendance. This year’s KME anticipates the largest turnout to date, and reflects the steadily growing interest in this twelve-year annual event.

During the two days of exhibitions at Coex, 180 exhibitors, 100 international buyers, and 200 domestic buyers are expected to be in attendance. Additionally, briefing sessions about the bidding and organizing of international conferences are planned to take place, targeting both domestic and international buyers.

A tour for international buyers has been arranged for the day before the exhibitions, and will take buyers to Seoul’s landmark N Seoul Tower, UNESCO World Heritage site Changdeok Palace, and traditional restaurant and performance hall Samcheonggak. They will also be treated to a sneak preview of Seoul’s upcoming and unique meetings infrastructure such as the Floating Island convention facility on top of Seoul’s iconic Han River and the Dongdaemun Design Plaza and Exhibition Center, which was designed by world-renowned architect Zaha Hadid.

Several features of the Korea MICE Expo are set to return this month such as the ICCA Data Workshop, the Seoul MICE Youth Challenge, and the Seoul MICE Forum. During the full day forum, invited guests and scholars from the travel and tourism industry, international convention organizations, tourism authorities, and academia will come together to discuss the future of the MICE industry under this year’s theme: “The New Wave of Creative MICEnomics”. Dean of UNLV Singapore Dr. Andy Nazarechuk and former ICCA President Pieter van der Hoeven are some of the many speakers who have been invited to share their expertise.

This is the second consecutive year that the KME takes place in Seoul. The event is hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Korea Tourism Organization, and is organized by the Seoul Tourism Organization and the Korea Convention Society
