New routes set to “take off”

Triple Bang for Brisbane’s buck with three new routes commencing this Sunday

Brisbane is set to reap the benefits of Tiger Airways’ Low Fare Revolution with the unprecedented launch of three new services on the same day between the Queensland capital and Melbourne, Adelaide and Rockhampton. All three new routes “take off” to/from Brisbane, this Sunday 28 March 2010. The inaugural flight to Brisbane departs from Adelaide Airport at 7am to arrive into Brisbane at 08:50am with Tiger Airways’ first female Captain – Wendy Hazelton from Queensland at the flight controls.

Tiger Airways Australia Managing Director Shelley Roberts said the airline’s rapid expansion across Australia was very exciting at a time when so many competitors were cutting back and increasing air fares.

“There’s no doubt about it, we are bucking the trend, we are adding new aircraft, new routes and creating more jobs,” Ms Roberts said. We’re thrilled that the people of Australia continue to embrace our true low fares.

“Because of Tiger Airways, air travel has never been more affordable for many more people. We’ve brought real competition to the market and real choice for the consumer. It’s great that Brisbane, too, can now join in the Low Fare Revolution as Tiger Airways continues to extend its paw print across the nation.”

With up to three daily flights between Brisbane and Melbourne, daily flights between Brisbane and Adelaide and daily flights between Brisbane and Rockhampton – the first ever intrastate route for Australia’s low fare leader, all commencing on Sunday 28 March 2010, Tiger Airways will provide a significant boost to Brisbane’s tourism industry, as well as increased employment opportunities with the establishment of new ground handling positions.

In total the new flights to/from Brisbane will provide more than half a million visitor seats annually through Brisbane Airport.

Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) CEO and Managing Director, Julieanne Alroe welcomed Tiger Airways’ new services saying the airline would make a big impression on Brisbane’s domestic service offerings. “Tiger Airways arrival at Brisbane Airport will be great for passengers, offering more choice and generating greater competition and ultimately lower airfares,” Ms Alroe said.
