Turkey surpass 2008 target in 11 months

Turkish Culture and Tourism Ministry announced beginning of year to host 25 million tourists. The 2008 target of tourist arrivals is surpassed in November. Turkish Culture and Tourism Ministry announced that the number of foreigners arriving in Turkey in January-November 2008 was recorded 25,245,301 by 13,10 % increase when compared with the same period of previous year.

11,66 % increase in the number of foreign visitors arriving in Turkey from OECD countries and 15,30 % increase in the number of foreign visitors arriving in Turkey from East Europe were recorded. 56,33 % (14,220,322) of foreign visitors arriving in Turkey in January-November 2008 is from OECD countries and 29,62% (7,478,196) is from East Europe countries.

Germany takes the first place by its share of 16,84 % (4,250,216) in the comparison of arriving foreign visitors by nationality in January-November 2008, Russian Federation takes the second place by its share of 11,21 % (2,830,073) as well as United Kingdom is the third country by its share of 8,43 % (2,129,089). Bulgaria, Netherlands, Iran, France, Georgia, Ukraine and U.S.A follow respectively United Kingdom.

1,329,411 (5,26%) of 25,245,301 foreign visitors arriving in Turkey in January-November 2008 is excursionist(same-day visitor).

Antalya takes the first place by its share of 33,44 % (8,442,714) in the comparison of arriving foreign visitors by provinces of border gates in January-November 2008, Istanbul takes the second place by its share of 26,09 % (6,587,103), Mugla is the third city by its share of 11,36 % (2,866,622) , Edirne takes the fourth place by its share of 9,20 % (2,321,502) as well as Izmir is the fifth city by its share of 3,98% (1,005,002).

According to the provisional data 9,24 % increase was recorded in the number of citizens arriving in Turkey in January-November 2008 (8,828,428) and 11,51% increase was recorded in the number of citizens departing from Turkey (9,146,699).

On the other hand, according to the provisional data obtained from General Directorate of Security, the number of foreigners arriving in Turkey in November 2008 was recorded 1,267,996 by 7,69% increase when compared with the same month of previous year. 6,92% increase in the number of foreign visitors arriving in Turkey from OECD countries and 13,40% increase in the number of foreign visitors arriving in Turkey from East Europe were recorded. 48,50% (614,966) of foreign visitors arriving in Turkey is from OECD countries and 30,79% (390,461) is from East Europe countries.

Germany takes the first place by its share of 18,20% (230,807) in the comparison of arriving foreign visitors by nationality in November 2008, Iran takes the second place by its share of 7,67% (97 236) as well as Bulgaria is the third country by its share of 7,12% (90,294). Georgia, Russian Federation, U.S.A, United Kingdom, France, Greece and Azerbaijan follow respectively Bulgaria. 70,076 (6%) of 1,267,996 foreign visitors arriving in Turkey in November is excursionist (same-day visitor).
 
Istanbul takes the first place by its share of 39,66 % (502,907) in the comparison of arriving foreign visitors by provinces of border gates in November 2008, Antalya takes the second place by its share of 18,14 % (230,038) , Edirne is the third city by its share of 11,45 % (145,205), Artvin takes the fourth place by its share of 6,63 % (84,079) as well as Agri is the fifth city by its ,share of 4,35 % (55,097).
