KUALA LUMPUR – It was a win worth tossing one’s ‘toque’ (a chef’s tall white hat) in the air when the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre’s (the Centre) award-winning culinary team heard Malaysia had won the bid to hold the Worldchefs Congress 2018, especially when the host venue will be none other than…the Centre.
And according to the Centre’s Executive Chef, Richmond Lim, the win is made all the more prestigious given the 2018 congress will only be the second time in the organisation’s 86-year history that the event will be held in South-east Asia.
“The team can’t wait to host the over 1,000 delegates of the culinary world’s creme de la creme. They want to get started now on brainstorming for ideas to ensure we ‘leave no stone unturned’ in our efforts to showcase the best produce and ingredients Malaysia has to offer and to ensure these culinary experts have a truly unique Malaysian gastronomic experience they will never forget!”
A delighted Alan Pryor, General Manager, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, said the selection of Malaysia for the event recognises the country’s business tourism capabilities. “This is a huge honour for the country, Kuala Lumpur City and of course, the Centre. We’re looking forward to putting Malaysia’s growing culinary industry on the global stage and sharing her culinary diversity with some of the world’s best chefs.”

Worldchefs Congress is expected to generate an estimated RM11 million (US$3.4 million) in economic impact for the country and draw an attendance of around 1,000 delegates.
