Tiger Airways announces further growth

Tiger Airways announces the confirmed delivery of two more new aircraft, bringing the total number of A320 aircraft in Australia to 12. The 11th and 12th aircraft for Australia will provide over one million additional domestic visitor seats annually and are due to arrive in early 2011.

Today’s announcement follows the recent confirmation of the airline’s 10th A320 aircraft, which is due to arrive in Australia in the coming weeks, (before the end of 2010), to be based at Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine).

Tiger Airways Australia Managing Director, Crawford Rix, says that all three new aircraft are a welcome addition to the fleet and cement Tiger Airways as the fastest growing major domestic airline in Australia.

“We currently have nine aircraft in Australia and three new aircraft mean we’re growing the fleet and our business by 30% over the next few months.

“Each aircraft provides over half a million additional low priced seats around Australia and all three new aircraft will create hundreds of new employment positions – so it’s a win-win for tourism, for the economy and for the consumer.

“Our incredibly low airfares simulate domestic air travel and help to keep Australia moving by boosting tourism and keeping it here in Australia,” he says.

As well as three new aircraft arriving soon, Tiger Airways is also celebrating a number of significant milestones next month with the commencement of operations from its new third base at Melbourne (Avalon Airport) from 10 November 2010 which coincides with the airline’s third year of operation in Australia.

Since commencing operations in Australia in November 2007, Tiger Airways has carried well over 5.5 million passengers around Australia.
