The Banjaran hotsprings retreat welcomes the world back to paradise in Ipoh, Malaysia

Sunway’s spectacular all-villa sanctuary invites global explorers to experience five-star hospitality, geothermal wellness and organic cuisine amid the lush, jungle-clad landscapes of Perak state.

IPOH, MALAYSIA – Sunway Hotels & Resorts, Malaysia’s leading international hotel group, is delighted to announce that The Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat, its organic five-star sanctuary in the jungle-clad hills of Ipoh, has reopened its doors and is now inviting lifestyle-conscious travellers from around the world to experience an exciting new era of eco-chic hospitality, wellness and gastronomy. Nestled in a 22.7-acre valley in the Malaysian state of Perak, surrounded by lush rainforest, soaring limestone peaks and hidden caves, The Banjaran is a truly extraordinary place to stay, dine and unwind. For more than a decade, this exceptional all-villa retreat has provided a breath-taking setting to relax, refresh and reconnect with the natural world.

Guests can stay in a choice of 44 Garden, Water and Lake Villas, which range in size from an expansive 81 sqm to an opulent 260 sqm. Each of these eco-retreats is fully equipped with upmarket amenities such as extra-large beds, lavish bathrooms, indigenous-inspired interiors and state-of-the-art technology. Every villa also features outdoor space and its own geothermal hot tub, blurring the boundaries with nature and creating truly enchanting stays.

Ipoh’s pure hot springs underpin the resort’s concept of physical, mental and spiritual rejuvenation. The impressive Spa & Wellness Centre presents a series of authentic Asian therapies, Ayurvedic treatments and other unique elements, such as the Thermal Steam Cave, Ice Bath, Crystal Cave, Meditation Cave, Garra Rufa Pool and Geothermal Hot Spring Dipping Pools. A fully-equipped fitness centre allows visitors to stay in shape and the outdoor swimming pool is the perfect place to cool off. Beyond the spa, expert-guided jungle walks will introduce the region’s rich and diverse local flora and fauna.

Gastronomy is another key aspect of The Banjaran experience and captivating culinary journeys can be enjoyed at Jeff’s Cellar, the multi-award-winning signature restaurant. Set in the softly-illuminated chamber of a limestone cave, with a dramatic backdrop of stalactites, stalagmites and rippling water features, this enticing venue sees highly skilled chefs – led by Ipoh-born Chef Lee Choon Boon – present a series of delectable dishes and tasting menus. Much of the produce is grown onsite in three organic gardens that cover 100 sqm and have been certified with the myOrganic license from the Malaysian government. This has resulted in Jeff’s Cellar winning a series of major global honours and accolades, including being named as one of the “Top Five Most Magnificent Bars in the World” by CNN.

Alternatively, Pomelo is an elegant all-day restaurant which presents a mouth- watering menu of Malaysian cuisine, pan-Asian flavours and international favourites with indoor and alfresco dining areas, including three gazebos that extend over the hot springs. Then, as the sun sets over the rolling hills, guests can head up to the Star Deck, which features its own telescope for stargazing and cocktail sipping.

The Banjaran’s spectacular setting also makes it an unparalleled venue for corporate meetings, social events and one-of-a-kind weddings. With indoor and outdoor function spaces, professional services, audio-visual equipment, creative catering and more, this is an amazing place to celebrate life’s most important moments. “I am delighted to welcome our cherished guests back to paradise at The Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat. As the world starts to travel again and people become even more aware of their physical and spiritual wellbeing, we will provide a serene sanctuary where lifestyle-conscious global explorers can uncover the many wonders of Ipoh and Perak state. From natural wellness to farm-to-table dining, we embrace what the Earth provides and showcase it in a highly sustainable way,” said Marc Groh, the resort’s newly-appointed General Manager.
