Thailand`s domestic tourism continues to grow this year

The tourism industry in Thailand`s domestic market has constantly grown over the past few years, thanks to what appear to be successful tourism promotion campaigns by agencies concerned.

Charoen Wang-ananont, President of the Association of Domestic Tourism Businesses, told that figures had shown that the domestic tourism had constantly grown over the past 1-2 years.

This could be attributed to successful tourism campaigns and promotional programmes introduced by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and other tourism-related agencies, particularly those organized at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre here recently, he noted.

The tourism campaigns and promotional programmes, particularly those organized at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre here recently, have resulted in full booking of domestic tour programmes, he disclosed.

External factors, including recent unrest in many countries, and the appreciation of major currencies, namely the euro, had also helped boost domestic tourism businesses, he pointed out.

With the appreciation of the euro, an outbound trip may cost a traveller about Bt70,000-80,000; while a domestic trip will be about 10 times cheapers, he noted.

Domestic tour programmes during the upcoming Songkran Festival have almost been fully booked, with destinations in the North becoming the most popular among Songkran revellers, according to Mr. Charoen. (TNA)
