Thailand Tourism Awards 2017 honours 110 Thai tourism enterprises

Thailand Tourism Awards winners are judged on very specific criteria highlighting the very best of Thai culture, environmental protection and contribution to civil society.

Bangkok – The Thailand Tourism Awards 2017, which recognise contributions from enterprises that upgraded the quality, professionalism and service standards of Thailand’s largest foreign exchange earning sector, honoured 110 Thai companies with the kingdom’s highest tourism award.

The impressive event was held at the Royal Paragon Hall, Siam Paragon on 27 September, 2017, and presided over by Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister, H.E. General Tanasak Patimapragorn.

According to General Tanasak, Thailand Tourism Awards winners are judged on very specific criteria highlighting the very best of Thai culture, environmental protection and contribution to civil society.

The Thai government recognises the pivotal role tourism plays in the country’s economic success and future development, in addition to the long-term commitment to sustainability. The Thailand Tourism Awards recognise and celebrate those values and are given to a very select group of companies and organisations that represent and are committed to the industry’s long-term success,” General Tanasak added.

Most winners are small to medium-sized businesses, especially in the hotel and tour operator sectors, that are geographically spread out nationwide across some of Thailand’s best-known tourism destinations and attractions.

Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Governor, Mr Yuthasak Supasorn, said: “TAT is delighted with the diversity of this year’s winners, which hail from all four corners of Thailand. Most proudly promote the kingdom’s unique Thai local experiences to the world, and these awards always help elevate awareness about the quality of Thailand’s dynamic tourism offering.”

The Thailand Tourism Awards 2017 seek to build awareness and promote responsible management among tourism entrepreneurs, ultimately leading to sustainable tourism.

TAT initiated the biannual awards project in 1996, as it believes that the Awards signify quality and excellence in tourism and hospitality operations. The Award winners demonstrate readiness to support and strengthen Thailand’s tourism industry, so that it may compete globally for many years to come.

The full list of the six award categories this year included: Hall of Fame (2 Awards), Tourism Support and Promotion Organisation (2 Awards of Excellence and 12 Outstanding Awards), Tourist Attractions (9 Awards of Excellence and 37 Outstanding Awards), Tourist Accommodation (2 Awards of Excellence and 9 Outstanding Awards), Health Tourism (10 Awards of Excellence, 10 Outstanding Awards) and Tour Program (7 Awards for Excellence and 10 Outstanding Awards).
