SpiceJet, first Indian low cost carrier available on Amadeus e-Travel Management

Spicejet is the latest airline to join Amadeus e-Travel Management and the first low cost carrier in India to do so.

BANGKOK- Amadeus announced at the end of last week that SpiceJet, one of India’s major air player, is now available to users of Amadeus e-Travel Management (AeTM), Amadeus’ online multi global distribution system (GDS) corporate booking tool.

In response to increased demand from travel managers wanting to book low cost carriers (LCCs) in India, Amadeus has created a framework that delivers SpiceJet’s full content to AeTM users via a direct API development.

The announcement marks a milestone for Amadeus, with the airline being the first of a number of Indian LCCs whose content will be made available through AeTM over the coming year, highlighting the flexible and open nature of Amadeus technology, which is used by both full service, low cost, international airlines and small and medium size carriers alike.

Users of AeTM in India will also be able to book ancillary services such as in-flight meals while ensuring they are booking negotiated corporate fares. Additionally, AeTM users have flexible account payment options rather than having to input credit card details in every traveller’s profile or at the end of every booking.

Neil Mills, Chief Executive Officer, SpiceJet ltd. said, “Corporate travel is on the rise in India with business travel expected to grow by 10% this year. We are delighted to work with industry leaders like Amadeus, to ensure our fares are available to corporations in India with the potential to reach over 6,000 corporations worldwide. Thanks to Amadeus’ technology leadership, we can reach our future business goals to establish SpiceJet as the leading LCC for travel within India.”

AeTM serves every aspect of a corporations’ travel needs through a single entry point, providing corporate travellers with choice and control over their trips, allowing them to easily plan, book and purchase complete travel itineraries, while complying with their company’s travel policies. The AeTM platform allows organisations to integrate all elements of its global travel programs – including travel policies, preferred suppliers and negotiated rates into one easy-to-use website, saving them time and money in the process.

Bruno des Fontaines, Vice President Customer Solutions Group, Amadeus Asia Pacific added, “This announcement marks a major step forward for Amadeus in growing our AeTM business in India. With the expected growth in corporate travel, especially through low cost travel options in India, offering SpiceJet content to our customers in India is well timed.”

SpiceJet is one of India’s largest airlines, with 18.5% of market share in Indian domestic market, delivering the lowest air fares with the highest consumer value. The airline currently operates more than 280 daily flights to 36 Indian cities and three international destinations, namely Colombo, Dubai and Kathmandu with a fleet of 35 Boeing 737-800/ 900ER aircraft.
