Sofitel So Singapore receives prestigious Green Mark Platinum Award

Launched in 2008, The Green Mark scheme recognises buildings that demonstrate exemplary environmentally sustainable best practices.

Sofitel So Singapore has earned top honours by clinching the prestigious Green Mark Platinum Award at this year’s Building and Construction Authority (BCA) Awards held in Singapore.

Launched in 2008, The Green Mark scheme recognises buildings that demonstrate exemplary environmentally sustainable best practices. Comprising four levels of ratings, the Green Mark Platinum is the highest accolade for green building certification in Singapore.

Located at 35 Robinson Road and operating within a heritage building in the city’s central business district, Sofitel So Singapore was acknowledged for integrating a number of green initiatives to enhance environmental sustainability throughout the hotel. Set to debut in the summer of 2013, Sofitel So Singapore will champion the use of innovative green technology to support sustainable development with the implementation of an efficient air-conditioning system and low energy-consumption light fittings. Among other innovative environmental sustainability designs and programmes, the property will also undergo extensive landscaping for a lush and natural feel, allowing soft natural light into the hotel while keeping the city heat out.

In an effort to preserve the prestige and heritage of the iconic building, hotel owner Royal Group Holdings has spent close to $130 million to restore and refurbish the 85-year-old neo-classical landmark to enhance its structure and essence.

“Being one of the first hotels to be conferred the Green Mark Platinum Award marks a major milestone as we gear up towards the opening of the first Sofitel hotel in Singapore. Being awarded this prestigious accolade even before our opening is a testament to our ongoing commitment to deliver the Sofitel magnifique experience and clearly underlines our determination to set the benchmark in luxurious hospitality in the region,” said Markland Blaiklock, Senior Vice President of Sofitel Asia Pacific.

Sofitel So is the designer, “boutique hotel” vision of Sofitel, featuring trendy hotels in contemporary locations.

Blending design and style, each Sofitel So aims to cater to travellers seeking the ultimate in luxury, culture and comfort, while expressing the essence of the destination. Reflecting a strong flare for design, each boutique hotel will combine the iconic Sofitel art de vivre with a signature design of an international designer from the fashion, art or design fields.

Epitomising the very essence of modern living with a chic Singaporean twist, the luxury hotel will feature 134 guestrooms with 23 suites equipped with cutting edge technology and a uniquely designed theme representing modern Singapore while preserving the building’s heritage. Located at the heart of Singapore’s bustling city centre, Sofitel So Singapore is minutes from iconic landmarks including the Singapore Flyer, centrepiece of Singapore’s remarkable skyline, and close to premier shopping belt, Orchard Road.

With the addition of Sofitel So Singapore, Sofitel currently has a network of three So label properties and another two under development in trendy, contemporary locations around the world. The first location was the Sofitel So Mauritius, which opened in December 2010. Sofitel So Bangkok, the first urban Sofitel So, in February 2012 and the fourth Sofitel So hotel in the pipeline, Sofitel So Mumbai, is set to open in 2015.
