Singapore Changi Airport welcomes new cargo carrier

Changi Airport Group (CAG) welcomes Transmile Air, a new cargo carrier at Singapore Changi Airport. Transmile Air, the first airline to commence operations to Changi this year, operates six weekly scheduled cargo flights from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur via Kuching and Labuan in East Malaysia.

Transmile Air flies the Kuala Lumpur – Singapore – Kuching – Labuan – Kuala Lumpur route on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with flights arriving in Singapore at 0920 hours and departing at 1050 hours on the same day. Labuan is a new city link in Changi’s network.

Transmile Air’s cargo operations will facilitate trade flows between Singapore and East Malaysia, helping major shippers tap global export markets via Changi’s extensive air cargo network. K-Mile Air, an associate carrier of Transmile, commenced operations at Changi Airport in February 2009. Focusing on the needs of air express integrators, K-Mile Air currently operates 20 weekly flights at Changi, connecting Bangkok to Jakarta via Singapore.

Mr Robert John Hyslop, Chief Operating Officer of Transmile Air, said, “Transmile is pleased to commence scheduled air cargo services between Singapore and East Malaysia. The new route will complement our current services to East Malaysia by serving Kuching and Labuan. Transmile’s operations from Changi Airport is especially ideal for the oil and gas industry, as Transmile will be able to accept shipments that are too large or bulky for shipping on narrow body passenger aircraft. We look forward to serving Singapore-based shippers and freight forwarders with our new services.”

K-Mile Air’s Chief Executive Officer, Ms Ratchanee Tubjitra, said, “I am delighted that KMile Air has celebrated a successful year of operations at Changi Airport. K-Mile Air started operations to Singapore in October 2006 as a charter airline and started scheduled flights in February 2009. We expanded our network to Jakarta in August 2009. I would like to express our sincere thanks to Changi Airport Group for the warm welcome to the Changi Family.”

Transmile Air commences operations at Changi Airport as growth returns to the air cargo sector. Cargo throughput at Changi in the first two months of 2010 has increased by 18.4% compared to the same period in 2009. For the month of February 2010, cargo grew 16.2% to 130,578 tonnes.

With the addition of Transmile Air, Changi Airport is served by 85 scheduled airlines operating some 5,000 weekly scheduled flights to 200 cities in about 60 countries and territories.
