Secret Retreats launches the mystic Mekong exclusive escape

HONG KONG – Secret Retreats, a bespoke collection of independent luxury boutique hotels, boats and camps across Asia, is thrilled to announce the launch of its exclusive escape, specially designed for photography enthusiasts, along the Mystic Mekong River.

Photographer Lim Zhu Andrew, (Andrew Lim), renowned for his works in capturing beautiful images of travel, nature and architecture, will be accompanying guests throughout the trip, sharing with photography enthusiasts how to capture the best shots. Andrew will walk each guest through his perspective of different scenes, in addition to the benefits of angles and light and what he sees during the moment.

Taking place between Saturday 19 – Saturday 26 October 2013, guests will have the opportunity to immerse themselves into the different experiences offered in Bangkok and Laos, amidst this one week, luxurious holiday.

Throughout the trip, guests will get to explore ‘old Bangkok’ by river boat, in Luang Prabang, in addition to visiting and capturing images of the ancient architecture of the historic temples and monasteries along the Mekong River (Wat Xieng Thong), viewing first-hand the daily rituals and lives of the monks inhabiting the monasteries. Each will have the chance to visit the sacred Pakhou Caves, containing hundreds of statues of Buddha, put there by locals as a form of worship.  

On the hills in Northern Laos, guests will be able to witness first-hand the lives and culture of the Hmong people. Here, photography enthusiasts will be able to capture the unique and original works of art from a view of 1000m above sea level. In the evening, guests will experience an authentic Baci Ceremony which will refresh souls for a healthy and long lasting life, following the ancient beliefs of the tribes.

The end of the week guests will get on board to the magnificent Nam Ou cruise to Muang Khua, visiting the village of Tai Dam along the way to learn how the rice alcohol ‘Lao Lao’ is produced using traditional methods. Guests will see the stunning views of limestone cliffs, majestic waters and caves, engaging with mother of nature.

Staying at the Secret Retreats hotels of Cabochon Hotel & Residence, Bangkok, Satri House and Muang La Resort in Laos, guests will enjoy the finest cuisine and facilities each hotel has to offer.
