New Bylaws regarded as vital in the Association’s roadmap for change in its structure and governance have been adopted by voting members of the Pacific Asia Travel Association. At an Extraordinary General Meeting held in Hangzhou, China (PRC) on Saturday September 26th 2009 chaired by Association Chairman Mrs Phornsiri Manoharn the resolution to adopt new Bylaws, as approved by the PATA Board of Directors, were passed unanimously. There were no objections or abstentions. A total of 131 of the 232 PATA members entitled to vote at this EGM were either present at the meeting or represented by proxy.

“This is a significant step towards important and necessary changes in the structure and governance of our Association,” says Mrs Manoharn. “Our new structure enables us to better serve our members.” PATA Board members meeting in Macau (SAR) in April 2009 discussed in detail the proposal to re-balance the Association in line with the current and likely future demands of travel and tourism in the 21st century. The governing body of the Association is an Executive Board of 12 members responsible for management, operational and financial matters. The Executive Board will be led by the duly-appointed Chairman serving either a one or two-year term, working in tandem with the CEO and the Association’s senior management team. The Executive Board of Directors will also play an influential role in shaping PATA policy and strategy.

In addition to, and distinct from, the PATA governing Executive Board a PATA Board comprising between 50 and 85 PATA members will act as the Association’s ‘think-tank’, offering knowledge, experience and expertise on a wide range of issues affecting members and the travel and tourism community as a whole. Importantly, PATA Chapters (currently 39 active PATA Chapters worldwide) are represented on this new-look body. Chairman Manoharn paid tribute at the EGM to the members of the PATA Governance Review Working Group, chaired by Tim Robinson. Copies of the amended and fully restated bylaws of the Pacific Asia Travel Association are to be made available to all members on the PATA website.
