NokScoot adds Osaka to its Japan network

Though there will be four airlines operating non-stop flights between Bangkok and Osaka, NokScoot believes it’s great value-for-money offering will prove to be an attractive new travel option for the growing number of travellers on the route

Bangkok – Nokscoot, the medium haul low-cost carrier based at Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport, announced the launch of four weekly flights from its base to Osaka’s Kansai International Airport from 28 October 2018.

This follows hot on the heels of its debut in Japan on 01 June 2018, when it inaugurated daily services on the Bangkok Don Mueang – Tokyo Narita route. The launch of NokScoot’s second route to Japan is in line with its plan to expand its footprint between Thailand and Japan, which are experiencing rapid growth in traffic demand from both countries.

We are excited about flying to Japan’s second largest metropolitan area, which is rich in history and famed for its food and nightlife scenes,” said NokScoot CEO Yodchai Sudhidhanakul.

Kansai International Airport, besides serving Osaka, is also the gateway to world-renowned tourist sites in western Japan including Kyoto and Kobe. Osaka, with 9.4 million arrivals in 2016, nearly a third up from the previous year’s level, is also fast becoming a destination in its own right, he noted.

Though there will be four airlines operating non-stop flights between Bangkok and Osaka, NokScoot believes it’s great value-for-money offering will prove to be an attractive new travel option for the growing number of travellers on the route, Mr Yodchai explained.

For Thais, Osaka is the second most visited Japanese city after Tokyo, with about 850,000 travelling between Bangkok and Osaka annually. Overall, statistics from the Japan National Tourism Organisation (JNTO) showed that Thai arrivals to Japan soared to almost one million in 2017, underscoring the continued upward trend since 2013 when Japan waived visa requirement for Thais.

Osaka has many attractions including the famous Osaka Castle with the Himeji Castle, a World Heritage Site, another 40 minutes away. There’s also the highly instagrammable Dotombori neighbourhood, recognisable by its neon signs in bright colours, the extremely popular Universal Studios Japan and Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan amongst the world-famous attractions Osaka.

The old capital Kyoto, known worldwide as one of the most beautiful places in Japan, is only about an hour from Osaka by train.

NokScoot, nicknamed Big Bird, will deploy the Boeing 777-200 wide-body jet, configured with 415 seats — 24 in premium class and 391 in economy – on its Bangkok-Osaka services.

Operating as a low-cost carrier (LCC), NokScoot will offer great value fares for the new service with an introductory ticket promotion starting from as little as THB 3,599 one way on from now until September 19 and valid for travel from October 28, 2018 to March 30, 2019.

NokScoot’s new Osaka services complement the 3 weekly flights operated on the route by Scoot, one of two main shareholders in NokScoot. Combined, Scoot and Nokscoot offer travelers the seamless flexibility and convenience of a daily flight on the route. Together, the 2 carriers also offer the choice of 2 daily flights between Bangkok Don Mueang and Tokyo Narita airports.
