Navtech puts tools in the palms of pilots’ hands

Τhrough a new expanded agreement with Copenhagen-based International Flight Support (IFS), Navtech, a leader in flight operations software and services, is launching WiFly, a unique 24/7 online flight support system that runs on almost any pocket computer or smart phone.  Navtech WiFly expands on the companies’ previous joint product The Wireless Aviator (TWA), now enabling pilots to perform critical performance planning, calculations, and reporting for the entire flight from their mobile device, improving convenience and reducing paperwork. Navtech WiFly became available earlier this month.

“We examined the pilot’s need for accuracy and speed when creating performance calculations for a flight and identified key tasks that would improve efficiency and reduce costs if they were carried out via a mobile device,” said Mike Hulley, Navtech CEO. “We turned to our partners at IFS for technological support and created the best-in-class handheld EFB Class 1 solution for performance calculations that our customers have been asking for.”

Navtech WiFly is modular, enabling a custom fit for various operational platforms and aircraft types, ensuring that each flight is optimized.  It captures the breadth of the flight, from pre-take-off tasks such as check-in, weight and balance, performance calculations and flight planning.  While in flight, Navtech WiFly enables convenient access to solutions for monitoring the engine and fuel, flight reporting, technical logging and calculations for landing. Once back on the ground, pilots can validate and send reports, debrief and check-out using simple, intuitive Navtech WiFly tools.

For efficient tracking and data capture, Navtech WiFly’s functions and computations are monitored and logged on a central server. The server also allows for quick, comprehensive updates to the software so that Navtech WiFly ensures that the airline is always ahead of the technology curve.

IFS’s award-winning handheld software uses its own IP/HTTP solution, which is renowned for speed, efficiency and cost savings. With Navtech WiFly, customers with such mobile devices as iPhone, Palm Treo, Windows Mobile devices like iPaq from HP, Touch Pro from HTC, Milestone from Motorola and Xperia X1 from Sony Ericsson and more can have an EFB Class 1 solution in the palm of their hands.
