Kayak launches version 2.0 Iphone app with trips management feature

Kayak travel search engine announced the launch of version 2.0 of the Kayak for iPhone application. Building on Kayak’s early success in the mobile online travel category, the new app adds Kayak’s trips management tool and includes several usability enhancements and faster search performance.

“With our latest iPhone app, people can get the travel search capabilities of Kayak.co.uk optimised for their iPhone,” said Kayak Chief Architect, Bill O’Donnell. “We conducted a great deal of usability research, and we’re thrilled with the new experience, search speed and the addition of the trips management tool.”

New features and upgrades of the Kayak 2.0 iPhone app include:
– A two-dimensional desktop-style navigation system
–  An enhanced flight, hotel and car search design including a new scrolling calendar and additional search options and filters
–  Faster search results for flight, hotel and car rental search
–  Addition of Kayak Trips, an itinerary management service to easily consolidate flight, hotel, car rental, maps and other events into a single itinerary

“Mobile has become a significant priority for us as we’ve seen usage rapidly grow to nearly 5% of our daily search volume in the past 6 months,” said Kayak CEO and co-founder, Steve Hafner. “By any metrics we have, we believe we’re leading the mobile online travel category as it emerges. We intend to continue rapid innovation to maintain our position.”

In addition to the free Kayak iPhone app, Kayak also updated a paid version of its mobile app, Kayak First Class that includes the ability to search for first class and business class airline fares.
