Hostelworld.com set to host inaugural Asia hostel conference

Hostelworld.com, the world’s leading provider of online reservations to the budget, independent and youth travel market is set to host its first ever Asian conference on the 29th and 30th June. The event will be held in the Yan’an Hotel in Shanghai, China and more than 150 hostel owners and managers from around Asia are expected to attend the 2 day event.

The inaugural conference will discuss a number of topical themes pertinent to the hostel industry in Asia including emerging markets, ratings and reviews and the importance of user generated content. There will also be a backpacker panel, giving hostel owners and managers a chance to speak to and learn from the most important people; their customers. Expert speakers for the conference include Mr Xiao Yi, CEO & Founder of Go2eu.com, Mr. Wu Hao, General Manager of Daodao.com and Mr Cai JingHui, Market Representative with Lonely Planet.

Feargal Mooney, CEO of Hostelworld.com commented on the conference “We’re delighted to be hosting our first ever Asian conference in Shanghai this year. The Asian region is extremely important to Hostelworld.com, representing a growing and emerging market both in terms of customer demand and as a destination for travellers. We’ve experienced a significant rise in both so far this year with bookings into Asia up by over 34% and outbound bookings from Asia up 20%. Cities which have been particular include Chiang Mai, Kuala Lumpur, Siem Reap, Taipei and Xi’an with South Koreans growing considerably as a nation of travellers up by 60%!”

He continued “It’s a fantastic opportunity for us to host a conference in China, having it in the local language and within easy reach for our valued local partners. So far we have delegates from 14 Asian countries registered. We’re confident that our first ever Asian conference will emulate the success of both our global Hostel conference which takes place in Dublin every year and our South American Hostel conference which is now in its second year.”
