Hong Kong Airlines fleet expanded to 30 adding frequency to Hanoi and Beijing in May

Hong Kong – The internationally-acclaimed full-service airline Hong Kong Airlines received its 30th aircraft, an Airbus A320, last week. The average age of the airline’s operating fleet stands at just 3.5 years, making it one of the youngest fleets in the world. The expanded fleet will support the airline’s development plan to set foot on farther continents beyond the Asia Pacific region.
 

At the same time, the airline will add frequency of its flight to Hanoi to 10 flights per week, commencing 15 May, and to add an additional of 6 flights per week to Beijing from 1 May on top of the current three daily flights. The arrangement is believed to meet the growing travel and trade demand between Hong Kong and the two cities.

Mr. Li Dianchun, Chief Commercial Officer of Hong Kong Airlines said, “Recent years have witnessed the growing demand of both business and travel between Hong Kong and Hanoi. And there has been an upsurge in demand for flight service between Hong Kong and Beijing over the years. With the support of our expanding fleet, we hope to strengthen our network by adding frequency to destinations including Hanoi and Beijing, providing a solid foundation for the airline to develop from regional to international, and to offer more choices for our passengers.”
 

Hong Kong Airlines has been committed to taking care of travellers’ diversified demand. Rooted in Hong Kong, its destination network covers over 30 major cities across the Asia Pacific region, including Gold Coast, Sapporo, Bangkok, Bali, Taipei, Beijing and Shanghai. Frequent daily flights from Hong Kong to cities like Beijing, Hanoi, Bangkok, Shanghai and Okinawa have been well received by the passengers. Being one of the youngest fleets in the world, the whole-Airbus fleet has an average age of just 3.5 years. In 2015, Hong Kong Airlines has recorded a passenger volume of over 5.6 million with a market share of almost 9% at Hong Kong International Airport. Driven by the expanding fleet and network, the passenger volume is expected to reach 7 million in 2016.
 

While rapidly marching towards the international market, the company takes the responsibility upon itself to contribute to society, especially to the young generation. It has launched Triumph Sky High Junior Programme and Embrace the World Student Sponsorship Programme to encourage the youngsters through airport visits and ticket sponsorship respectively, to learn about the aviation industry as well as to explore the world. So far, there are about 1,500 students who benefited from the programmes. The annual Hong Kong Airlines Embrace the World Student Sponsorship Programme was firstly launched in 2014, upon which overwhelming response was received with 1,000 tickets given to 50 participating schools. In January this year, the airline organized the first-ever Hong Kong student tour to visit Airbus’ aircraft manufacturing base in Asia, bringing the 10 most outstanding award-winning students who have participated in the Programme to Airbus Training Centre in Beijing and A320 Family Final Assembly Line in Tianjin to learn more about aviation.
 

Hong Kong Airlines held a grand groundbreaking ceremony on 9 March this year for the Hong Kong Airlines Aviation Training Centre (HKAATC). Located at Kwo Lo Wan Road at Chek Lap Kok, the HKAATC is targeted for completion in 2018, offering a variety of aviation services and related training facilities. The completion of the HKAATC will help to nurture a new generation of aviation elite, and provide more employment opportunities, spurring the growth of the industry.
