TAIPEI, TAIWAN – One of only 10 SKYTRAX-rated 5-Star Airlines worldwide, EVA Air is frequently recognized for the comfort and exceptional service it offers. It has also created 12 commonsense tips to further enhance its passengers’ inflight comfort and wellness that it makes available on a dedicated web page and in an excerpt presented in its inflight magazine, en Voyage. Additional information about EVA, including routes, services and bookings, is available at www.evaair.com.

Along with encouraging passengers to get regular medical check-ups, follow doctors’ advice and take necessary medications as directed, both on the ground and in the air, EVA also offers these simple tips to help promote inflight wellness and added comfort:

  1. Reserve seats near the aircraft’s wings if you are prone to air sickness.
  2. Do not fly within 24 hours of scuba diving.
  3. Avoid wearing contact lenses during the flight.
  4. Do not fly if you have a contagious disease. While EVA works hard to ensure air quality that is better than that in most homes and offices, aircraft cabins are public areas where cross-contamination is possible.
  5. Carry your inhaler with you and avoid situations that may trigger a respiratory illness if you have asthma or a chest disease.
  6. Bring needed medication on board and take it according to the usual schedule at your place of departure. Be prepared for a travel companion or another passenger to administer a treatment or remedy you have with you in case of a severe allergic reaction. Order appropriate special meals using the Managing Your Trip tab at the top of the EVA website and always carry a written medical report, describing the condition.
  7. Do not fly if you recently suffered a heart attack. Heart attacks occur twice as frequently in the air as on the ground.
  8. Avoid heavy meals, alcohol and caffeinated drinks during the flight because they may cause fluid loss. Drink water and juice. Also use a skin moisturizer.
  9. Stand carefully when you wake up to prevent dizziness. Drinking alcohol, low oxygen, lack of activity and sleepiness can cause dizziness. Stretch and do the exercises shown in the inflight magazine before trying to stand.
  10. Move around during the flight and do the exercises shown in the inflight magazine to help improve circulation. Immobility can lead to deep vein thrombosis. Warning signs can include pain and tenderness in leg muscles, along with redness and swelling. Passengers who have heart disease, phlebitis, poor blood coagulation or are recovering from venous surgery in their legs are most at risk. To help prevent circulation issues: – Drink water and juice frequently and avoid smoking, alcoholic beverages and drinks containing caffeine during the trip. – Wear loose clothing. – And again, do some of the exercises shown in the inflight magazine while you’re sitting in your seat.
  11. Swallow, chew or open your mouth wide to promote better airflow if you feel discomfort in your ears or sinuses when the plane descends. If your child is uncomfortable or in pain, try giving the little one water or juice or a pacifier to improve airflow and relieve the discomfort.
  12. Stay awake while the plane is descending and ease any ear or nose discomfort as soon as possible.
