Making every day World Environment Day: A look back on AYANA’s ongoing efforts to support sustainable tourism.
SINGAPORE – World Environment Day aims to encourage worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment. As part of its efforts to conserve the environment on an ongoing basis, AYANA Resort and Spa, Bali has already implemented several new environmental initiatives, such as the promotion of biodegradable coffee capsules in their suites and villas, and cleaning up the resort’s private beach.
In addition to their ongoing commitment to EarthCheck, the world’s leading scientific benchmarking for delivering clean and healthy destinations for travel and tourism, AYANA recently announced its collaboration with Java Mountain Coffee to promote sustainable coffee consumption and tourism, as well as support the local community and female coffee farmers.
AYANA Resort and Spa, BALI also celebrated Earth Hour this year with a host of activities from 22 March to 24 March designed to encourage guests and staff alike to play their part in environmental conservation.
Supporting Sustainable Tourism
In line with AYANA Resort and Spa, BALI’s mission to support sustainable tourism at their flagship resort in Jimbaran, as well as within the surrounding community, AYANA announced in April its recent collaboration with the social enterprise Java Mountain Coffee.
Effective immediately, AYANA’s suite and pool villa guests will find biodegradable and compostable coffee capsules conveniently available in their accommodation for authentic Indonesian coffee breaks any time of day. Each capsule is filled with farm fresh, micro-roast coffee sourced from the cool hillsides of Mount Batu Karu in Munduk and the Ciwidey mountain ranges.
This collaboration supports Java Mountain Coffee’s mission and the United Nations commitment to empower 1 million female coffee farmers and plant 3 million climate resistant coffee and shade trees by 2030. With this knowledge, AYANA guests can enjoy their morning coffee knowing that each sip helps to support the Women’s Empowerment Innovation Fund, a fund dedicated to financing Java Mountain Coffee’s Sustainable Program. As coffee consumption is forecasted to grow 3 times of the current demand by 2050, against declining global yields, AYANA is thrilled to support the first all-female farmer membered cooperatives to be established in Indonesia’s history. This is a notable milestone as Indonesia is the third largest coffee producer in the world.

AYANA #CONNECT2EARTH event for 60+ Earth Hour 2018
In conjunction with the world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment, AYANA Resort and Spa, BALI celebrated people’s connection to our planet with a lineup of activities across three days.
AYANA augmented its participation in this year’s Earth Hour with several innovative activities, including organising an employee engagement poster competition to increase internal awareness of environmental issues.
Additional activities started with a beach clean-up on the first day, as approximately 100 AYANA team members gathered on Kubu Beach, led by the resort’s General Manager, Mr. Clive Edwards. Staff members were then encouraged to discuss their connection to the Earth and nature with their families, inspiring conversations around prioritizing the planet’s biodiversity as the rich variety of life on Earth continues to decline year after year.
The next day the team arranged special animal feeding sessions across AYANA and RIMBA, raising awareness to the care for koi residing in ponds surrounding RIMBA’s To’Ge restaurant, the resort’s horses and K-9 trained dogs.
On the last day, guests and team members came together in the early evening for a fun run from AYANA’s Spa Lobby to RIMBA Lawn, followed by several meaningful activities such as a yoga session, group meditation, traditional Balinese blessing, and candle lighting ceremony taking the formation of the 60+ Earth Hour logo. At night, along with 188 countries and territories worldwide, resort lights were turned off for one hour.
