The Association of Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE) will deal with the many faces of globalization at its Asia-Pacific Regional Education Conference being held from 23 – 24 August at The Ritz Carlton-Millenia Singapore. Globalization means many things to different people but one certainty is that there are both proponents and opponents to globalization.

The theme of the conference, BALANCING ACT: GLOBAL versus LOCAL, examines the tug and pull struggle that corporations are engaged in, more specifically, in the management of corporate travel. Business travel is well acknowledged by finance managers as a significant expense to companies as the upward trend of business travel continues to drive up the cost of conducting international business. Corporate travel policy decisions that capitalize on the efficiencies of global consolidation without compromising the assets of local operations remain a challenge for every organization.

ACTE`s conference features a programme addressing highly debated issues relevant to all corporations who concern themselves with ensuring maximum value to shareholders. Profit optimization today can only be achieved by programmes that factor in new pressures such as the safety of travelling executives, business mobility as more executives find themselves on the road, change management as travel assembles multi-cultural responses to business, as well as the rising cost of key business travel components.

Leading industry experts present keynote presentations at the conference addressing the issues relevant to business travel and corporate management.

Dr. Frank-Jurgen Richter, former director of the World Economic Forum, Asian Affairs and a renowned author of many books addresses the region`s rise to economic power presents Report Card on Globalization.

Simon Bond, Regional Head of International Clients & Business Development Director (Asia), Proximity Asia, will share his thoughts concerning the future of internet technology as he presents Lessons in Distribution and Communications.

Stephen Scott, Director of Xchanging Australia provides his insight on the crucial formula to success when he talks about Translating Global Strategies into Local Successes

Two live media interviews will have a panel discussion to debate subjects that corporations and business travellers share a common interest in. Dr. Jeffrey Staples of International SOS, a leading medical authority on pandemics, Paul Chin, head of environmental health and safety division at Hewlett Packard Company and Richard Martin, director of IMA consultancy and author of the white paper on business continuity strategy in the face of a pandemic will address how companies are dealing with contagious diseases and the health of their travelling executives.

ACTE has been active on a variety of issues dealing with corporate social responsibility (CSR). ACTE`s CSR initiatives include education on green RFPs, decreasing CO2 emissions related to travel, as well as serving as an international advocate for stopping the trafficking of women and children. During the conference a featured presentation by the MTV Europe Foundation will show how certain criminal elements are taking advantage of an advanced global travel infrastructure to exploit vulnerable communities.
